In 2016 the Sheens started off the season with a match-up against the Cannons on May 21. It was a back-and-forth battle throughout the first half. Tom Schreiber led the team in scoring with three goals, followed by Steele Stan- wick, Peter Baum and Marcus Holman. Mark Cockerton would snipe two more quickly before the end of the half. Throughout the second half it was a battle for the W, with Schreiber, Harrison and Baum continuing the momentum for the machine it was up to the Faceless Men to hold the line. Jackson Place and Scotty Rodgers did just that as they hosted a shutout in the fourth quarter. The Cannons are sitting at 2-4 this season but the Cannons do not look to be slowing up anytime soon as their key player Will Manny has been dominating defenses this year. However, after a win at Chesapeake this previous week- end, the Machine look focused and ready to face the challenge of Manny and the Boston Cannons. None in the Chamber Boston and Ohio currently sit at two different ends of the leagues standings. The Ohio Machine are 4-2; while the Cannons are 2-4. Each team is averaging league highs in goals per game. The Ohio Machine is only allowing 10.12 goals against which is the best in the league while Boston sits eighth in the league allowing 15 goals. Boston holds the advantage on the offensive side of the ball while on a power play, shooting a percentage of 47.37 while on a power play. Boston is coming off a hard loss against Denver. Tom Schreiber, Marcus Holman and Jake Bernhardt look to be three promising players against Boston. @machineMLL theohiomachine.com The New Editions With Major league Lacrosses’s collegiate draft recently occuring, the Ohio Machine traded up to number five to draft University of Denver’s attackman Connor Cannizzaro. The star-studded attackman looks to be promising with an unsolved Probable Starters mystery in an open spot for the Machine’s offense. Cannizzaro arguably played his best ball during the playoffs where he Attack led Denver to the semi-finals in Mens D-I Lacrosse. In the third-round, Nick Fields was selected. Fields will be joining the 1 Marcus Holman team this week against Chesapeake and should be ready to make an impact right away. On top of the star players select- ed, the Machine managed to draft not one but three players from The Ohio State University. Coach Bear Davis mentioned that having these players is, “huge for our program and having two hometown guys as a part of the sheen family is pretty 41 Mark Cockerton incredible”. Midfield Schreiber’s dominance 15 Peter Baum Tom Schreiber has been a tyrant with the ball since returning just two games ago. Schreiber has already gained 13 points with 10 of those points coming from assists. With an even more impressive fact; teammates of Schreiber are shooting 3 Jake Bernhardt 45.5% (10-22) when getting passed to by the Machine captain. With only having played two games Tom Schreiber is currently tied for second in the league with assists. Tom’s next couple games should be promising as he attempts to continue climbing the stat sheets. The former first overall pick Tom Schireber in the 2014 MLL draft has over 100 Major 23 Dominique Alexander League Lacrosse goals and over 200 points under his belt. 26 Tom Schreiber Watch Out offenses The Ohio Machine are now 4-2 with their most recent win against Chesapeake However, if it were not for Brian Karalunas Defense and Matt McMahon giving offenses a nightmare to deal with their outstanding defensive play this season then it is hard 11 Matt McMahon to say that our record would be where it is. Between both Karalunas and McMahon, there are 36 CTs and each currently holds 18 a peice. McMahon has already surpassed last season’s total caused turnovers which was 14 in 11 games; the 12 Steven Waldeck Machine have currently played six games. Karalunas and McMahon combine for 12 rebounds and McMahon is leading all defenders with three Run Outs. 17 Jackson Place Battle at the Left With the return of Logan Schuss, the team now has two starting left attackers. Through the first four weeks, Faceoff Cockerton has been the key player for the machine and our go to attackman. Now that Logan is back in the 92 Greg Puskuldjian lineup the team is quickly forced to have Mark and Schuss battle it out for the starting position. This comes as no surprise for Mark Cockerton as he was quickly taken out of the starting lineup last year for attackman John Grant. Last year Mark appeared in just 13 games and found himself with 24 goals, 5 assists and 17 ground balls. So far in 2017, Cockerton had a rough start to the season with no goals in the first game. He has since scored in each of the last 3 games while accumulating 14 total points which happens to lead the team. During Logan’s first outing back, he scored himself his first goal in 3 years.
