News @ mangalam Volume 3 Issue 1 A Biannual Publication from Mangalam Group of Educational Institutions March 2012 “Value driven generation can only bring Social development”, says Shri Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan. “The participation of a generation driven with values can bring development to the Society”, the Minister, Mr. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said. While speaking at the inauguration of “Mahasangram 2012”, the All India Management Meet organized by the Department of Management Studies, the minister stressed the need of a value based generation to develop the Society. According to him, it is mainly based on the way the institutions are working. He also expressed his deep concern on the deterioration of values with the passage of time. He emphasised the need of doing more and more research, and advised the student community to come forward with Our University Toppers a mind to learn more. Further, the institutions should step forward and take the responsibility for bringing up a generation based on in MBA values which is very crucial in the present scenario. The two day fest helped in bringing together the young minds of various universities and institutions, providing them with a platform to express their talents in the best possible ways. More than 200 students from various institutions participated in the events and it was a real platform for the students to showcase their talents and abilities. The participants compete each other in six events - Best Manager, Best Management Team, HR game, Brand Panorama, Business Quiz and Corporate show. Corporate Show, a spectacular fashion show with a corporate vogue, was the highlight of the first day evening, and participants from various colleges exhibit their skills to won the cash prize. All India Management Mee IndiaAll Management - th Cultural show was organised on 6 evening and our students present a spectrum of events, a real feast to the audience. While addressing the audience he told the students that they could succeed only by facing challenges. With the looming of Smart City, Kochi has become a part of global market, and it is a bliss for the professionals due to the increase in employment opportunities. He exhorted the students to learn to dream and to make the dream come true. Mr. Biju Varghese, the Chairman of Mangalam Group of Educational institutions, presided over the meeting and Mr. Sajan Varghese, the Managing Director of Mangalam Publications, presented the award to the best outgoing student of the batch. The outgoing students took oath with lighted candles led by Rtd. Brig. Joseph Mathew (Dean, Students). Adv. Mangalam Media Club--An initiative by the S3 MBA Students The third semester MBA students took initiative to start the media club with a view to nurture the talents and hone the skills of the MBA students . The objective of the club is to bring out the hidden talents of the students by organising various training programs and seminars, and thereby sharpening their competencies and skills to face the challenges of the corporate. The punch line “Inception to perfection” of the club itself proclaims the mission behind the initiative. The Mangalam Media Club was inaugurated by Dr. T K Raman, a leading Corporate Trainer and Chairman of TILT (The Institute of Leadership Training), Kochi. Mr. Sooraj P. S., President of the Media club welcomed the gathering, Prof John T Varughese, Dean of the department presided over the meeting and Ms. Karthika G. delivered the Vote of Thanks. The Media Club also arranged a guest talk related to experiential learning by Pushpa Kurup, the Managing Director of Vitalect Inc., which is based in Palo Alto, California. Our Students visited KRL, Kochi and won first S1 MBA Students at HNL, Vellore place in the Debate Competition as part of the Encon Club activities. S3 MBA students at Cholayil Pvt Ltd ,Chennai S3 MBA students at Neyveli Lignite Company 4 MBA Placement Activities The Placement activities of the 6th Batch of our department started with a week long placement training by Mr. Vijay Menon, a Corporate trainer of international repute. Students were trained on various facets of career building. A live workshop was conducted to train the students on Group Discussion, Interview, Resume writing, Personality development, Attitude formation etc. A full fledged placement database is created to cater to the needs of the corporate. Some of the students from our present senior batch already got job offers. They include WIPRO Technologies (1), HDFC Bank (4), Sutherland (1), Business India(2), Metrolla Steels(4), CIPLA(3) and ICICI Prudential(2). The remaining students are going through the process of recruitment and selection under the guidance of Mr. Siby James, the Placement Officer of the department. Our students are being short listed for the selection process by the companies like JRG Securities, Mangalam Publications, AXIS Bank, India Infoline etc . Placement Training - S3 MBA students with the trainer, Mr Vijay Menon Final year MBA students during a visit to IIM Kozhikode S1 & S3 MBA students on a trip to Wayanad Visit to IIM Kozhikode The Department of Management Studies organised a visit to IIM, Kozhikode for the S3 MBA students and they got an opportunity to interact with the eminent faculty members over there. Prof Anandakuttan B. Unnithan and Prof Jophi Alex discussed with the students on Consumer psychology and Trends in Marketing and on the Career opportunities in Business respectively. 5 Inauguration of MBA (2011-2013 batch) Induction programme for S1 MBA Other Activities of the Department of Management Studies The 2011-2013 MBA Batch was inaugurated by Mr. C. Rajagopal IPS, District Police Chief, Kottayam on 4th July 2011. Mr. K M Roy, Director, Mangalam Institute of Journalism and Communication delivered the keynote speech. Fr. Abraham Skaria took class for the parents of newly admitted students. The two week induction programme for the MBA students was led by a Cochin based HR training firm - Corporetta headed by Mr. Vipin Roldand , the faculty members of the Department and experts A guest talk by Dr Stephen Mathews from various fields. A Video Conferencing with V.S. Pradeep, MD, Cholayil Group, Chennai was organized on 3rd November 2011. Guest talk on Investment in Capital Market by Mr. Akshay Agarwal, MD of Acumen Capital in October 2011. A talk on Hedge Yuva trading program by Mr. Sreekanth S. was organized in December 2011 and in January 2012. A three day training program for the S1 MBA students by ‘Red Letters’ in the month of February 2012. A guest talk on “3.0 marketing” by Dr. Stephen Mathews, Former Director, XIME, Bangalore. Video Conferencing – V. S. Pradeep, Seminar on “Marketing challenges to be reformed” by Dr. V S MD, Cholayil Group Ramaswamy and Ms. Namakumari. S, renowned Marketing Specialists and authors on 3rd March 2012. Training program by Red Letters Going beyond the syllabus - An altruistic mission As part of the social activity, our S1 MBA students and the members of faculty spent a day with the destitute children at Kerala Balagram (Christavashram), Kottayam and sponsored their one day food with the amount collected towards charity fund.
