Universal Service Fund Three Years Projects Roll Out Plan (Date of Publication: 17th September 2020) USFCo has been mandated to provide telecommunication coverage to the unserved and underserved areas across Pakistan. Different programmes have been designed and multiple projects have been undertaken to achieve the goals set forth by the Federal Government. NEXT GENERATION BROADBAND FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME: This programme focuses on provision of voice and enhanced high speed broadband internet services. Prior to this programme, USF targets were the Unserved areas however now the Underserved areas are also being targeted for provision of high-speed Broadband data services. In this regard USF has already launched number of projects where implementation is in progress. Punjab: 7 Districts Project Scope Un/Underserved Areas in Districts Targets FY 2022-23 It is anticipated that projects will be designed and Approximately 1,987 un/underserved launched for the following districts: mauzas having a population of approximately 4.5 million. Lots to be formed after complete Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 6 Districts analysis of un/underserved areas However, exact targets to be identified after Punjab: 5 Districts updated analysis before launch of relevant project. NEXT GENERATION BROADBAND FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR NATIONAL HIGHWAYS AND MOTORWAYS: This is a variation of above mentioned programme whereby commuters on Un/Underserved road segments of national Highways and Motorways will be provided with eh seamless voice and high-speed Broadband data services. In this regard USF has already launched number of projects where implementation is in progress. Future tentative roll out plan under this programme is as follows: Project Scope Un/Underserved Areas in Targets Districts FY 2020-21 NH & MW Lot-4 (N40) Mastung, Quetta, Nushki, Chaghi 488 un/underserved Road Segments FY 2021-22 & 23 Projects will be designed and launched on Case to Case Basis OPTICAL FIBER CABLE PROGRMME: With increasing demand of high-speed Broadband Internet Services, a reliable, scalable, high speed and high capacity backhaul infrastructure is of prime importance. USF’s Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) programme targets the backhaul component of telecom infrastructure. USF has already launched number of projects where implementation is in progress. Initially unserved Tehsil Headquarters and Major towns were being connected with fiber. However, considering the strategic significance of OFC infrastructure USF is further expanding this infrastructure up to Towns/Union Councils level.
