General information The Real World is Complex { an international symposium in honor of Christian Berg August 26{28, 2015 Copenhagen, Denmark August 20, 2015 Preface The symposium is sponsored by The Carlsberg Foundation and the Department of Mathematical Sci- ences, University of Copenhagen. The organising committee consists of Associate Professor Jacob Stordal Christiansen, Center for Math- ematical Sciences, Lund University, Sweden and Professor Henrik Laurberg Pedersen, Department of Mathematical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. Registration The symposium takes place at Department of Mathematical Sciences H.C.Ørsted Instituttet Universitetsparken 5 DK-2100 København Ø The Department of Mathematical Sciences is found in the E-building of the H.C.Ørsted Insitute. The registration takes place outside Auditorium 10, on the first floor (not the ground floor) in the south end of the long open hall in the H.C.Ørsted Institute, close to the department. There will be signs pointing to the auditorium. Registration takes place on Wednesday August 26 from 9.00 to 10.00. At the registration desk you will receive this document, the book of abstracts, and your badge. The opening of the symposium is at 10.00 in Auditorium 10. Wireless internet To connect to the wireless internet please use the eduroam network, or the network Conference with access code Bohr2013 Lecture room All lectures take place in Auditorium 10. The room is equipped with computer, beamer and black boards, so you need only bring your slides, preferably in pdf format, on a usb-disk. Every morning the presentations of the day should be uploaded to the computer. Hence the speakers of the day should be in the room a little before the first talk in the morning and contact the organizers in order to upload the files. It is also possible to connect your own laptop. Lunch and coffee breaks Lunches Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are served in the Biocenter, a few hundred meters from the lecture room, just across the soccer field. Show your badge and mention that you participate in the symposium “The Real World is Complex”. Coffee breaks are taken right outside the lecture room (not in the Biocenter). Lunches and coffee breaks are included in the registration fee. 2 Symposium dinner The conference dinner takes place on Thursday, August 27, at 19.00 at the restaurant Aamanns Etablissement Øster Farimagsgade 12 2100 København Ø Payment for the dinner is included in the registration fee. Payment for accompanying persons must be made during the registration Wednesday morning. The red marker shows the location of the restaurant, and the blue marker shows the location of the department of mathematical sciences. 3 Activities in Copenhagen There are many sites to visit and things to do, e.g. visit the Tivoli Gardens or the Glyptotek, experience the harbour of Copenhagen by boat, or take a walk in central Copenhagen along “Strøget” between the City Hall and and the old harbour “Nyhavn” (which by the way means “new harbour” in Danish). Other sites of interest are Amalienborg Slot (the Queen’s castle), Rosenborg (where you can see the Crown jewells), or you can relax in one of the city parks. There are many restaurants in central Copenhagen offering a wide selection of Nordic and international cuisine. In Vesterbro (to the west of the central station) check out restaurants near “Halmtorvet” and “Kødbyen”. “Torvehallerne” (near Nørreport Station) offers a wide selection of food during the day. There is also a food festival http://www.copenhagencooking.com/ taking place August 21-30. Kronborg castle is situated in Helsingør, approximately 50 kilometers north of Copenhagen.
