Media release, 14 October 2019 An intimate evening with Steve Hackett The Fondation Beyeler and Bayer present a unique live concert by legendary Genesis star and solo artist Steve Hackett Steve Hackett (*1950), renowned musician and composer, successful both as a member of British rock band Genesis and as a solo artist, will perform exclusively at the Fondation Beyeler with his acoustic trio on Thursday, 12 December 2019, at 7.30pm. For several decades now, Steve Hackett has been covering wide musical territory: from progressive rock, to blues and jazz, to classical music. The gifted guitarist will be performing at the Fondation Beyeler with his acoustic trio, featuring Roger King on keyboard and Rob Townsend on saxophone and flute. The trio will reinterpret classic Genesis hits as well as solo pieces by Hackett. Steve Hackett has reduced the acoustic set to be played at the Fondation Beyeler to its musical essence, making this a one-of-a-kind concert. Only 200 guests will be able to attend this unique, intimate event. An intense musical experience awaits Genesis fans as well as devotees of this series of live concerts, which allows members of the audience to witness world-class musicians up close. Steve Hackett rose to fame as a guitarist in the classic line-up of British band Genesis alongside Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford, taking over from Anthony Phillips in 1971. Hackett’s powerful acoustic play and his unique guitar sound were a key ingredient in the band’s sweeping success around Peter Gabriel. Following the album Wind & Wuthering, Steve Hackett left Genesis to embark on a solo career. His guitar sounds are unforgettable and are considered music history milestones. “An intimate evening with” is a concert series presented jointly by the Fondation Beyeler and Bayer, featuring musicians who made pop and rock music history. At the Fondation Beyeler, members of the audience are able to witness these artists up close in the museum’s special atmosphere. Steve Hackett joins a distinguished list of outstanding artists of international standing, following up on sensational and highly praised performances by Patti Smith (2015), John Cale (2016) and Bryan Ferry (2018). Felix Reiff, Country Manager Bayer Switzerland and CEO of Bayer Basel, says: “Together with our partner of many years, the Fondation Beyeler, we are proud to be able to present international pop and rock music legends who remain creative and productive to this day, in the intimate setting of a world- renowned museum.” Sam Keller, Director of the Fondation Beyeler, adds: “In partnership with Bayer, we are very happy to be able to organise an intimate concert with such a legendary musician, who will bring his unique sound to the Fondation Beyeler.” Information: Steve Hackett An intimate evening with legendary guitarist, composer and long-time member of British band Genesis Thursday, 12 December 2019, at 7:30pm at the Fondation Beyeler Advance booking from mid-October Tickets: CHF 85.– (Young Art Club / Art Club & Friends CHF 70.–) Admission to the museum included in the ticket price.
