Our History and Essence 1890 The Dussaillant family, owner of the largest local winery in the mid-20th century, establishes Viña Casablanca in Lontué, Curicó. 1990 Carolina Wine Brands acquires the Viña Casablanca brand. The Casablanca valley is designated as the first cool-climate valley in Chile. 1991 55 hectares are purchased in the coolest area of the Casablanca valley, 18 km from the ocean, and the first grapevines are planted in Nimbus Estate. 1994 First wines produced under the Viña Casablanca brand in the namesake valley. 2010 An area of 11.5 ha is planted on the hills of Nimbus Estate (7 ha Pinot Noir and 4.5 ha of Syrah). These vines are aimed to produce top quality grapes for icon wines Neblus and Pinot del Cerro. 2011 A joint venture agreement is signed with Domaine Laroche from Chablis, owned by Advini, one of the largest wine holdings in France. Under this joint venture, a small winery located in La Vinilla and the Céfiro Estate vineyards, both in the Casablanca valley, are added to the project. 2012 First harvest vinified in our own winery in Casablanca. 2013 The Casablanca valley is added to the Great Wine Capitals global network, thus joining the 8 appellations of: Bordeaux-France, Rioja-Spain, Verona-Italy, Porto-Portugal, Mainz Rheinhessen-Germany, Napa- United States, Mendoza-Argentina, and Adelaide-Australia. 2015 An investment is made to increase the winery’s capacity and improve grape reception and production processes. The Casablanca valley The Casablanca valley is situated in the Aconcagua wine region (one of Chile’s 6 wine regions), on the Coastal Mountain Range in the Province of Valparaíso. Surrounded by mountains, the 16-km plain (6,000 ha) is located 75 km of Santiago, Chile’s capital, and only 18 km from the Pacific Ocean. The conditions that make this a valley of choice for premium-quality, cool climate wines include: MORNING FOG OCEAN BREEZE COASTAL MOUNTAIN RANGE SOIL Clouds shroud the Casablanca The breeze from the Pacific Granite soils spread throughout valley at the crack of dawn, Ocean curbs temperatures, blows the valley. Our Vineyards Viña Casablanca owns two estates in the Casablanca valley, with a combined area under vine of 83.83 hectares of wine grapes devoted only to the production of our wines. NIMBUS ESTATE Planted in 1991, this 57.05-hectare vineyard located at the westernmost end of the Casablanca valley and closest to the Pacific Ocean is the heart of Viña Casablanca. Nimbus wines are sourced from vineyards planted on flatlands and rolling hills. The grapes used for our icon wines Neblus and Pinot del Cerro originate from vines that grow on 11.5 hectares of 30 to 70-degree slopes. Casablanca’s proximity to the sea allows grapes to ripen at the leisurely pace that results in intense wines of outstanding concentration, complexity and a fruity character. CÉFIRO ESTATE This 24.78-hectare vineyard was planted in 2006 on the northeast of the Casablanca valley. Here, average temperatures are slightly higher than those prevailing to the west of the valley, which prompts the vines to bloom and the grapes to ripen approximately two weeks earlier. Céfiro wines are mostly sourced from this vineyard because the existing climate conditions help produce highly fruity, easy to drink wines. Viña Casablanca “The Winery of the valley” VIÑA CASABLANCA bears the name of its home valley. VIÑA CASABLANCA was among the pioneering winegrowers in the valley. VIÑA CASABLANCA is one of the few wineries with facilities in the same valley, which allows it to harvest and vinify its grapes just a few kilometers away. VIÑA CASABLANCA is strongly committed to its home valley, the only one featured among the Great Wine Capitals. VIÑA CASABLANCA produces honest wines that embody the greatest expression of the terroir, the climate, and the passion of its people. In addition, Gonzalo was appointed general manager and head winemaker of Viña Casablanca in 2012. Winemaking Philosophy Our winery focuses on cool-climate varieties grown in the Casablanca valley: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Merlot. As a Chilean winery, we cannot leave Chile’s classic varieties –Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère– outside our portfolio; therefore, we source the grapes for the finest representatives of these two varieties from vineyards on the Andean foothills in the signature valleys of Maipo and Rapel. Our comprehensive ‘from the vineyard to the bottle’ winema- king approach favors: • Individual management of each lot; • Night and early-morning harvests to preserve grape quality; • Manual sorting of grapes upon reception at the winery; • Vinification of each lot separately; • Manual processing of grapes for icon wines; • French oak barrels and foudres of various sizes. Viña Casablanca’s goal is to craft honest wines that are true to their origin. Viña Casablanca’s rigorous vinification process results in fresh, concentrated wines with punch, a fruity charac- ter, balanced acidity and alcohol content, full aging potential, and consistent elegance across the portfolio. PINOT DEL CERRO An exclusive 100% Pinot Noir sourced from the vineyards at the top of the hill in our Nimbus Estate. A limited production of 1,500 numbered bottles. Harvesting is manual and the crews need to be equipped with special harnesses to negotiate the 70-degree slopes on which the plants grow. These low-yield vines produce only one kilo per plant. Vinification is also manual. The best berries are selected during a double sorting process. Fermentation takes place in open tubs, barrels, and conical tanks. Regular punching down is conducted manually. 12 months in French oak barrels provide further balance to this offering that aspires to become Chile’s prime Pinot Noir. NEBLUS The Syrah used for Neblus grows mostly at the top of the hill, where sun exposure is more intense and longer, since the fog that blankets the valley every morning does not reach up the peak of the hill. Neblus is the walker featured on the label. Every year, this wine renews itself to tell a new adventure that will convey the unique personality of each vintage. Hailed as one of the finest wines produced in the valley, Neblus is a cool-climate Syrah targeting wine collectors. Choosing a good wine is always a tough decision: we want to be sure yet at the same time surprised. Nimbus is the shroud that surrounds that element of surprise. It is a tribute to the clouds that shroud the Casablanca valley, protecting the vines from sun and frost damage, while giving our wines the cool-climate character that only Casablanca can provide.
