APPENDIX 2 LIST OF SPECIES BORROWED FROM THE MANCHESTER UNIVERSITY MUSEUM AND THE FINNISH MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY We contacted the Manchester University Museum, where most of the specimens of Colin Johnson have been preserved. It holds one of the largest collections of Cryptophagidae in the world. We borrowed representatives of 50 widely distributed or northern Palaearctic species from that collection. All those species were photographed and carefully examined to compare them with North American specimens. Here is the list of species borrowed from the Manchester University Museum (all species in bold have been recorded in North America): - Cryptophagus cylindrellus Johnson - Cryptophagus denticulatus Heer - Cryptophagus fasciatus Kraatz - Cryptophagus intermedius Bruce - Cryptophagus jakowlewi Reitter (confused with C. confertus in Bousquet et al. All identifications of those images were confirmed by Colin Johnson. Finally, we compared images (including a few species in other genera) of the following Palearctic species with North American species (all species in bold have been recorded in North America): - Caenoscelis sibirica Reitter - Caenoscelis subdeplanata Brisout de Barneville - Antherophagus pallens (Linnaeus) - Antherophagus silaceus (Herbst) - Antherophagus similis Curtis - Cryptophagus badius Sturm - Cryptophagus confusus Bruce - Cryptophagus dentatus Reitter - Cryptophagus distinguendus (Herbst) - Cryptophagus dorsalis Sahlberg - Cryptophagus fuscicornis Sturm - Cryptophagus laticollis Lucas - Cryptophagus lycoperdi (Scopoli) - Cryptophagus micaceus Rey - Cryptophagus pallidus Sturm - Cryptophagus pubescens Sturm - Cryptophagus punctipennis Brisout de Barneville (recorded as Cryptophagus pilosus) - Cryptophagus quercinus Kraatz - Cryptophagus saginatus Sturm - Cryptophagus scanicus (Linnaeus) - Cryptophagus schmidtii Sturm - Cryptophagus scutellatus Newman - Cryptophagus subdepressus Gyllenhal - Henoticus serratus Gyllenhal - Telmatophilus
