Getting Ready for iBooks Author University of Portland Class blog: edmethods.com Instructor: Peter Pappas peterpappas.com Inspiration? Here’s slide versions of last year’s chapters More on iBooks Author here: Get Started with iBA Workflow: Because it's difficult to rearrange individual pages in iBooks Author, it's important to layout your chapter in advance. As your idea for a chapter begins to take shape, you might create a rough layout in PowerPoint, Google Presentation or Keynote. This will help you visualize what content will be on each page. Content: Text - you should have all text typed out and saved in Word, Pages or as a Text file. Do not bother to format it (fonts, italic, color) You’ll do that in iBooks Author For all content you will need a source archive name, content title, creator (if applicable) and it’s original URL. Get it the first time. Access - Have all content available on a drive you can access from the digital lab Acceptable file formats for iBooks Author: • Image files: JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF Note: The recommended file format is JPG. If the image includes transparency, PNG is recommended. • Video and audio files: MP4 video files and M4A audio files. You can convert other types of files using iMovie or QuickTime Player. • Keynote presentations are fully functional in iBooks Author. Video option: If you have the video as MP4 we can insert the actual file into the iBook. The other option (if you have a YouTube of Vimeo video) is to embed it into the iBook. You’ll need URL and bibliography info. We will use Bookry to create an embed widget. That keeps the file size of the iBook smaller. Good.
