It is my honour to share this unique event with our community and visitors from far and wide this Easter. Aer its postponement in 2020 due to Covid restricons, the YP Art Exhibion is back with its 11th exhibion since commencing in 1999, turning into a biennial event in 2002. I would like to take a moment to sincerely thank and acknowledge all the arsts who registered in 2020 and have re‐registered in 2021. Their understanding, on‐ going support and creavity is appreciated. I would also like to recognise our dedicated Working Party members, parcularly Carolyn Ramsey who came on board in 2019 to head the planning of 2020 and now, the 2021 Exhibion. Further, I would like to acknowledge founding member Verna Lock, the driving force behind the establishment of the Exhibion. Verna’s memory has connued on with the Verna Lock Memorial Award, awarded to a Yorke Peninsula subject created by a Yorke Peninsula arst. This Exhibion would not be possible without the generous support of all our sponsors. They are listed on the inside cover of this catalogue, I encourage you to support them as they support us. Without their connued sponsorship, the Exhibi‐ on would not have grown to what it is today. On behalf of the Elected Members, we congratulate all businesses and community groups associated with the Exhibi‐ on for their assistance in backing and organising such an enjoyable, and unique Yorke Peninsula event. I would also like to daw your aenon to the other art projects occurring around the region over this weekend – the Tiddy Widdy Beach Stobie Pole project, the Southern Yorke Peninsula Water Tower Mural project and the new community mural being painted at Weaners Flat, Yorketown. Finally, I sincerely thank you all for your sense of community and contribung to this major cultural event that celebrates creavity on the Yorke Peninsula. Mayor Darren Braund Yorke Peninsula Council 2021 YORKE PENINSULA ART EXHIBITION 1 Chairperson’s Welcome The 2021 Yorke Peninsula Art (YP) Exhibion Working Party is proud to present this exhibion program by local and wider South Australian arsts. It is being held over the Easter break, across three Yorke Peninsula locaons – Ardrossan (fine art / painng), Edithburgh (sculpture) and Yorketown (photography). As Chairperson of the 2021 YP Art Exhibion Working Party, I am proud to be associated with this dedicated group of volunteers and Council staff. I also acknowledge all past members of the Working Party for their vision and com‐ mitment without whom, the YP Art Exhibion wouldn’t exist and be the much loved, and respected event it is today. On behalf of the Working Party, I would like to thank our six Judges who have taken on the difficult task of awarding prizes across the many categories on offer. I also extend my congratulaons to all exhibitors and local schools (and their teachers) for producing such wonderful works of art and supporng this ven‐ ture by re‐registering in 2021. Similarly, a big thank you goes out to our Yorke Peninsula community and all the visitors who will holiday in our region and see the Exhibion over the 2021 Easter long‐weekend. I am confident you will enjoy and appreciate the efforts of our many arsts (young and not so young) and everyone who has worked towards presenng such a diverse and quality exhibion program. Richard Cane Chairperson YP Art Exhibion Ardrossan Progress Associaon 2 CELEBRATING 11 YEAR ANNIVERSARY About the Exhibion The Yorke Peninsula (YP) Art was first held in 1999 over the October long‐ weekend and then moved to the Easter long‐weekend and a biennial event in 20002. Previously Coordinated by a Secon 41 Commiee of the Yorke Penin‐ sula Council, the Exhibion is now coordinated through a volunteer and staff Working Party to plan, support and promote creavity and the arts within our community. Due to Covid restricons imposed in 2020, the Exhibion will celebrate its 11th year in 2021 and move back to its Biennial rotaon from this year. The Yorke Peninsula Art Exhibion is a major cultural event on the beauful and iconic Yorke Peninsula. The exhibion aracts a wide variety of entrants from across the state and provides the perfect addion to an Easter break on Yorkes for locals and visitors alike. A regionally inspired art exhibion, the diverse art programme includes local schools / school students and is held at three key venues – Ardrossan (fine art / painng), Edithburgh (sculpture) and Yorketown (photography). In addi‐ on, we have a number of public art and mural projects also worth vising as part of the YP Art Trail. Adding even more opportunies to experience and meet the wide range of art and arsts (of all ages) on the Yorke Peninsula. Through art and creavity, Council is commied to aracng visitors to rural areas and less visited aracons and locaons, as they connue to promote our region as a desirable holiday desnaon –that is less than two hours from Adelaide. The Working Party recognises that arsts and business entrepre‐ neurs make an important contribuon to Australian society, the economy and assist in driving tourism by providing creave approaches to regional develop‐ ment. The YP Art Exhibion has won two SA Great Regional Awards for Art in 2006 and 2008, an Advantage SA Award in 2010 and were admied into the Hall of Fame in 2010 for recognion of “outstanding achievements and significant contribuons demonstrang excellence in regional leadership". Our diverse exhibion program and support connues to grow. It includes strong involvement from local schools and students, as well as aracng well‐ known and new arsts across the region and the state.
