FullinstallofWindows98onaFAT32drive:requires 210MBoffreeharddiskspace,butmayrangebetween 190305MB,dependingonsystemconfigurationand optionsselected. Also,ifyouareinstallingWindows98toadrive otherthanC,Setupcanrequireupto25MBoffree diskspaceondriveCforthesystemandlogfiles createdduringSetup. Uninstall:IfyouwishtobackupWindows95before upgrading,selecttheSaveYourSystemFilesoption duringSetup.Thiswillallowyoutouninstall Windows98SecondEditionintheeventyouhave problems.However,therearecertaincasesinwhich youcannotdothis: *YourcurrentWindowsinstallationisona compresseddrive. *Youareinstallingtoanewdirectoryorsetting upacleaninstallwithnopreviousversionavailable. *YouarerunningaversionofMSDOSearlier than5.0. MAKEANEWSTARTUPDISK!Becauseofchangesinthe realmodeandprotectmodekernelstosupportFAT32, Windows98SecondEditionstartupdisksarenotcompatible withearlierversionsofWindows.Therefore,whenyouset upWindows98SecondEditionforthefirsttime,besure tomakeanewStartupDisk,EVENIFYOUARENOTPLANNING TOUSEFAT32. ProgramManagerfromWindows3.x. --------------------------------- ProgramManagerisnolongersupportedinWindows98. ProgramManager(Progman.exe)isleftonthesystem fortroubleshootingpurposes,butitwillNOTcontain anygroups.Inaddition,ifyouareupgradingover Windows95,yourexisting.grpfileswillberemoved. Theseareknowntocausesomeproblemswheninstalling Windows98.IfyouareupgradingfromWindows3.x, theold.grpfileswillremainonthesystemand ProgramManagerwillstillhavesomefunctionality.
