Bethel Seminary – Competing Schools

BETHEL UNIVERSITY COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENTAL SCAN April 2019 Bethel Seminary – Competing Schools What schools are the most significant competitors for Bethel Seminary? Based on actual enrollment data, the answer is “none of the above”. Of 255 students who applied for admission at Bethel Seminary, the names of 217 students who applied for admission but did not enroll at Bethel Seminary for the fall 2018 or spring 2019 semesters were sent to the National Clearinghouse for matching. Here are some of the results (where the student ended up enrolling for fall 2018 or spring 2019): • 27 Bethel University (enrolled in a term and/or school other than originally applied) • 15 Liberty University (8 of the 15 enrolled in a comparable religious program) • 4 Century College • 4 Point Loma Nazarene University • 4 Wheaton College • 3 Biola University • 3 Southern New Hampshire University • 2 California State University—Fullerton • 2 Callifornia State University—San Marcos • 2 Crown College • 2 Grand Canyon University • 2 Our Lady of the Lake University of San Antonio • 2 St Mary’s University—Minneapolis • 2 University of Northwestern—St Paul • 2 University of St. Thomas • 2 Warner University • 1 several schools, including Adler University, Azusa Pacific University, Concordia University, Hood Theological Seminary, Metropolitan State University, North Central University, Oral Roberts University, University of Northern Iowa, Walden University, Western Governors University • 151 Bethel applicants were not enrolled in any school (monitored by the Clearinghouse) for fall 2018 or spring 2019. Because the Clearinghouse registers attendance for over 90% of enrolled students in the U.S., it’s likely that most of the 151 “unknown” students did not enroll anywhere during fall 2018 or spring 2019. It is interesting to note that 97% of Bethel Seminary applicants who enrolled in higher education (not at Bethel) were not enrolled at a seminary. In conclusion, most candidates for Bethel Seminary who do not enroll at Bethel do not attend anywhere that year. Of those who do attend a higher education institution, most go somewhere other than another seminary. .
