Her latest publication in this field is Der lange Schatten der Vergangenheit: Erinnerungs- kultur und Geschichtspolitik (Munich, 2006). ULRICH BACHTELER is director of the Deutsch-Amerikanisches Zentrum / James- F.-Byrnes-Institut e.V. in Stuttgart. He is the author of Die Darstellung von Werken der Malerei in der amerikanischen Lyrik des 20. Jahrhunderts (Frankfurt, 1979). VOLKER BERGHAHN is the Seth Low Professor of History at Columbia University. His most recent book is an anthology, co-edited with Sigurt Vitols, Gibt es einen deutschen Kapitalismus? Tradition und globale Perspektiven der sozialen Marktwirtschaft (Frankfurt, 2006). ANDREAS ETGES is Assistant Professor of North American History at the John F. Kennedy Institute of the Free University of Berlin. He recently co-edited (with Manfred Berg) John F. Kennedy and the “Thousand Days”: New Perspectives on the Foreign and Domestic Policies of the Kennedy Administration (Heidelberg, 2007). MARCUS GRÄSER is Privatdozent in the Department of History at the University of Frankfurt am Main. His most recent publication is Imaging Vienna: Innensichten, Aussensichten, Stadterzählungen, co-edited with Monika Sommer and Ursula Prutsch (Vienna, 2006). LARS MAISCHAK is Lecturer in American History at California State University at Fresno. He received his Ph.D. in 2005 from the Johns Hopkins University. For his dissertation, “A Cosmopolitan Community: Hanseatic Merchants in the German- American Atlantic of the Nineteenth Century,” he was awarded the Fritz Stern Prize. His research in American history concentrates on transnational connec- tions, political economy, and the social history of elites. PETER NOVICK is Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Chicago. His most recent book is The Holocaust in American Life (Boston, 1999). JANUSZ REITER, diplomat, foreign policy expert, and political writer, is the author of reports and policy papers published in Poland, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States. From 1990 to 1995 he served as Polish Ambassador to Germany. On October 3, 2005 he was sworn in as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to the United States of America. Janusz Reiter was awarded the German Great Cross of Merit with the Star and Ribbon. He is married and has two daughters.
