Nook and Nook Simple Touch You will need: An internet-connected computer Adobe Digital Editions (free software downloaded from the library’s website) and an Adobe ID An email address A library card number and pin number Go to the library’s website, www.nelsoncopublib.org, on your device. On the right side of the screen, click on ‘Download’. This takes you to the Kentucky Libraries Unbound Digital Media Catalog. This is where you can search for ebooks, audiobooks, video, and music to download from the library. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on “software” on the left side. Click “Adobe Digital Editions” on the next page. On the Adobe Digital Editions homepage, choose, “Install Now”. From the next page, choose either the Macintosh or Windows version of Adobe Digital Editions, depending on what type of computer you have. On the box that pops up, choose “Save File”. When the file has downloaded, double-click on it and choose “run” from the next box: Check the box to accept the agreement, then click “next”. The next screen has info about where ADE will be stored on your computer. Click next again, then click “Install”. When the installation is complete, click “Close”. You’ll see a message that the installation is complete. Click “Done” to open ADE on your computer. Adobe Digital Editions will then open automatically on your computer. You will be prompted to authorize your computer with your Adobe ID. Use the ID you created to authorize the computer. If you are not prompted to authorize, click “Help” at the top left of the screen and then “Authorize computer”. Once you have Adobe Digital Editions installed and authorized on your computer, you’re ready to check out and transfer books to your Nook. When searching for ebooks, keep in mind that the Nook is compatible with EPUB and PDF formats. Go back to the Kentucky Libraries Unbound website on your computer (see the first page of this guide if you don’t know how to get there). You may browse by category or search for books by typing in a title, author, subject, etc. Once you find a book/audiobook to checkout, tap the cover and you will see either “Sign in for Availability”, “Borrow”, or “Place a Hold”. You will also see a bookmark icon that you may use to add the book to a wish list, a “share” icon, and an arrow that says “more”. Tapping “more” will lead you to a synopsis of the book. To sign in, you will then need to tap the arrow to the right of “select library” and choose Nelson County from a list: Sign in to your account with your library card number and pin number: If you tapped “Place a Hold”, you will be asked to provide an email address to be notified when the book is available. If you tap “Sign in for availability”, you will then tap either “Borrow” or “Place a Hold” after signing in. After you tap “Borrow”, you will get a message that the book has been added to your bookshelf. Tap “Go to bookshelf” to send the book to your Kindle or to read it in your device’s web browser: Your bookshelf will show you all the ebooks/audiobooks that you have checked out. Next to each book you will see two buttons: “Download” and “Read (in your browser)”. Check the box next to “EPUB eBook” then click “Confirm & Download”: You will see a box that asks you to open the book with Adobe Digital Editions. Click open and your book will automatically load in Adobe Digital Editions. To transfer the book to your Nook, connect your Nook to your computer with a USB cord and open ADE. You will see your Nook listed under the “bookshelves” on the left side of the screen. Click on the picture of the book you are transferring on the right, hold down the mouse and drag the book on top of where your Nook is listed and release the button on the mouse. The book will be copied to your Nook. .
