Media Release Latinas Lead California Endorses Loretta

Media Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 22, 2016 CONTACT: Press Office 714-774-0236 Latinas Lead California Endorses Loretta Sanchez for the U.S. Senate LOS ANGELES, CA – Today, Latinas Lead California endorsed Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez for the United States Senate. The organization cited her 20 years of fighting for policies that support and strengthen women and families on issues including healthcare, gender equality, pay equity, reproductive rights and service in the military. “Loretta Sanchez has a proven track record of fighting for our communities and advocating for the rights of women and families in Congress. She has been a pioneer of Latina leadership both in our state and nation. We are proud to stand with Loretta in her bid to represent our state and be the first Latina elected to the U.S. Senate," stated Latinas Lead California. “I’m honored to have the support of Latinas Lead California,” said Rep. Loretta Sanchez. “As California’s next United States Senator, I will continue to empower women and fight for gender equality in education, workplace and the military. I will make access to education and equal pay for equal work for women a priority because we must end the inequality that women still face in the workplace.” Rep. Sanchez has been a member of the Congressional Women’s Caucus and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus for 20 years and has partnered with her colleagues to successfully pass legislation that supports women. She was a co-sponsor of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair pay Act, which restores the ability for women to use the judicial system to seek redress when facing pay discrimination. As the most senior female on the Armed Services Committee and the founder and Chair of the Congressional Women in the Military Caucus, Rep. Sanchez has led the charge for equal opportunities for women in the military, including combat. In 2005, Rep. Sanchez successfully pushed to revise Article 120 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) to address sexual assault in the military with policy that protects victims, empowers prosecutors, and creates a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual assault and abuse. Latinas Lead California is the state’s only political network that endorses and contributes to Latina candidates. A nonpartisan organization, Latinas Lead California is committed to promoting and increasing the active participation of Latinas to elected office. Latinas Lead California supports Latina candidates who work toward creating public policies that empower Latinas, their families and their communities throughout California. The endorsements are determined by its all-volunteer Board of Trustees, which is composed of women committed to electing Latinas at all levels of government.
