The organization cited her 20 years of fighting for policies that support and strengthen women and families on issues including healthcare, gender equality, pay equity, reproductive rights and service in the military. “Loretta Sanchez has a proven track record of fighting for our communities and advocating for the rights of women and families in Congress. She has been a pioneer of Latina leadership both in our state and nation. She was a co-sponsor of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair pay Act, which restores the ability for women to use the judicial system to seek redress when facing pay discrimination. As the most senior female on the Armed Services Committee and the founder and Chair of the Congressional Women in the Military Caucus, Rep. Sanchez has led the charge for equal opportunities for women in the military, including combat. In 2005, Rep. Sanchez successfully pushed to revise Article 120 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) to address sexual assault in the military with policy that protects victims, empowers prosecutors, and creates a zero-tolerance policy toward sexual assault and abuse.
