The number of primary pupils in Moray has decreased by 1,434 since 2003, a fall of 18.4%. Secondary pupils have increased slightly from 2009 however overall numbers have dropped by 2.3% from 2003. The number of primary teachers has dropped from a high of 459 in 2006 to 392 in 2010, a fall of 14.6%. Secondary teachers have fallen by 6.9% from a high of 510 in 2008 to 475 in 2010. Since then however, the ratio has increased in both 2009 and 2010 and is now 13.3. This is equal to the national average but ahead of our comparator authorities’ average of 12.9. In Writing, the figure has increased to the highest ever achieved. In Mathematics, the figure is the same as 2009 and therefore equals the best ever performance. HB 926617 9 SQA Examination Results In general, in S3 and S4, young people in Moray secondary schools follow national qualifications courses or Standard Grades. Qualifications can be compared using the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). This is not a new set of qualifications; it concerns the way in which qualifications can be compared in order to simplify progression between them.
