Forword Hoping this will provide some happiness in 'rediscovering' Seoul The impact of moving images such as movies and TV drama series is much more powerful than you would expect. A well-made film or dramatic series even changes the way people think. The Spanish Square and the Trevi Fountain where Roman Holiday was shot in 1953 are still considered a must by those traveling to Rome even though it has already been 60 years. The small town of Notting Hill in England in the movie Notting Hill and New Zealand's South Island in Lord of the Rings have taken on a new image along with the countries they are in for people around the world. Then what about Seoul? People started taking a tour of the locations along the Han River when director Bong Joon-ho’s The Host opened in theaters in 2006, while the steps on Namsan that didn't even have a name are now called ‘Sam-soon’s steps’ because of the drama series My Name Is Kim Sam-soon. Places that we pass by daily gained vitality as they are remembered in a new way in the minds of people through films and drama programs. It is now quite common to find people bustling around on the street, surrounded by cameras and bright lights. We live in an era where 100 or so films are produced in Korea each year and numerous drama series are being shown on TV, so coming across a camera crew on the streets is no longer a big deal. <The Places in Seoul Cinema Fell in Love with> is a guide to various places that were revitalized through movies or a drama series. We occasionally do encounter people who remember Seoul as just another grey city, but Seoul is an attractive city that has diverse faces all rich with expression. Tremendous effort was put into this book to provide various kinds of information pertaining to the locations that have not been seen in other travel books. This book consists of two parts. The first part contains information about each location and the second part consists of recommended tours for the reader. The aim is that you will be able to actually feel the wave of emotions the main character felt in the film as you hold the book in your hand and look around the different places. I hope that <The Places in Seoul Cinema Fell in Love with> will present those who have yet to see the true worth of Seoul with some happiness in ‘rediscovering’ Seoul.
