MEMORIAL SERVICES There will be a Memorial Service to commemorate the life and work of Dr Hal Dixon (KC1946) on Saturday 18 October at 2.30 p.m. On Sunday 2 November a Memorial Service for Dr Peter Lipton will be held in the College Hall at 2.00 p.m. [ 2 ] MUSIC This year is the 50th anniversary of the death of Vaughan Williams in August 1958. As the Choir was not in residence in August, there is a focus on music by Vaughan Williams and some composers associated with him on 11 and 12 October, the latter date being that of his birth in 1872. At Evensong on Saturday 15 November, the College commemorates Canon Pat Magee, a former Chorister, Choral Scholar, Undergraduate and Chaplain who died on 20 March this year. The music chosen reflects his own taste: much of it was sung at his funeral in Salisbury Cathedral. Among visiting organ recitalists is Roger Williams who, as a research studenthereinthelatesixties, workedonSchoenberg. Twogreattwentieth century composers are honoured: on Saturday 18 October music by Howells is featured at Evensong, which will be attended by members of the Herbert Howells Society; Matyas Seiber’s Missa brevis will be heard on Thursday 20 November as part of a Cambridge-based celebration of Hungarian music. The College’s resident string quartet, the Dante Quartet, will lead the orchestra in Fauré’s Requiem on Sunday 2 November. This year sees the second Concerts at King’s series, represented in Chapel this term by a return of Elgar’s The Kingdom on Monday 1 December.
