This Student Handbook is designed to provide you with information on issues that may arise during your time at Molloy College. It contains rules and regulations, policies and procedures, resources and other important information. It is required reading for all Molloy students, and anyone taking classes at Molloy College is bound by the rules and policies set forth in this Handbook. The College reserves the right to change its rules and regulations, policies and procedures, admission and graduation requirements, academic calendar, financial policies, course offerings, delivery methods, tuitions, fees, and any other material at its sole discretion at any time without prior notice. Nothing in this Handbook is intended to create, nor shall anything be understood to create, contractual or legally enforceable rights. Students are deemed to have read and understood this Handbook. If you have questions and cannot find the answer in this Handbook, please do not hesitate to call the Office of Student Affairs at (516) 323-3456, email us at [email protected] or stop by our office located in room 330 of the Public Square Building. 2020-2021 COVID ANNOUNCEMENT Molloy is working toward a phased approach to resuming operations on campus, using New York State guidelines, CDC and department of health recommendations, and state and federal requirements related to higher education. In preparing for the fall, the health and safety of the Molloy community is paramount. Creating a safe campus environment is all of our responsibility, and Molloy will not tolerate any actions by students, faculty, or staff that jeopardize the health of our campus community. For the 2020-2021 academic year, Molloy has issued COVID-19 Safety Rules and Precautions (available via the Stay Safe Pledge link below). Molloy students are expected to comply with the Student Handbook, Stay Safe Pledge, Molloy’s COVID-19 Safety Rules and Precautions, the New York State guidelines and executive orders issued by the New York State Governor’s Office, and all guidance from the CDC, state and local health departments.1 Failure to fully comply with the Molloy health and safety standards could result in a student’s immediate removal from campus and transition to remote learning, or possible judicial consequences, including suspension or expulsion. Students who violate these requirements will be met with appropriate sanctions. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students are advised that all or some of the instruction for the 2020-21 academic year may be delivered remotely. Because of the possibility of these changes, the official policy regarding instruction is the online version of the Academic Catalog, which can be found here. The College reserves the right to make changes of any nature in programs, course content, calendar, academic schedules, program delivery methods, or other academic activities whenever these are deemed necessary or advisable at the sole discretion of the College. It is the student’s responsibility to know and follow current requirements and procedures at all department, school and College levels. Molloy College reserves the right to deny admission, re-admission, registration, or re-registration and to dismiss or suspend either from classes or a College residence any student who is unable to meet the College’s academic or health standards, or whose behavior is not in accord with the rules and regulations of the College. Please contact specific departments on campus with any questions as to how normal operating procedures may be impacted by Molloy’s COVID-19 policies. I. INTRODUCTION: This Student Handbook (“Handbook”) applies to all students at Molloy College (undergraduate, graduate, doctorate, part-time, full-time). A. The Molloy Story “Molloy has some unique qualities: the genuine friendliness of a comparatively small group in an academic setting, the resulting close faculty-student-community relationship, emphasis upon quality rather than quantity, the wisdom to know that knowledge plus character is necessary for a successful happy life here and hereafter. These comprise the spirit of Molloy.” 1958 Dedication of Kellenberg Hall. Molloy College was founded by the Dominican Sisters of the Congregation of the Holy Cross Amityville. The establishment of a Catholic College for women on Long Island was a long-time dream of the Congregation that came to fruition after many years of patience and determination. With the support of Bishop Thomas E. Molloy and the encouragement of Monsignor Peter Quealy, on September 12, 1955, Mother Anselma Ruth O.P., Ph.D., first president of Molloy College welcomed a freshman class of 44 young women. While the first academic building for the new college was being finished, classes were held at 915 North Village Avenue, Rockville Centre. From modest beginnings, Molloy College has grown rapidly and consistently. Established as a Catholic women's college with academic programs focused on service-oriented professions such as Nursing and Education, today Molloy, steeped in its Dominican heritage, welcomes a multi-denominational student body and offers bachelors, masters, post-graduate certificates, and doctoral programs in various disciplines.
