As the 2012 Visionary, Cameron Silver created a gala experience reflecting the vintage glamour of Hollywood’s Golden Era with an eye toward present and future modernity. With his time-treasured concept of heaven, Cameron honored the heart and soul of the organization’s mission as well as the spirit of our diverse artistic disciplines. The Art of Elysium bestowed Elijah Wood with The Spirit of Elysium Award for his tireless support and years of dedicated volunteerism. Guests were immediately transformed to the days of bygone glamour as they entered into the art deco atmosphere of Union Station. While sipping champagne provided by Beau Joie, gala attendees enjoyed live jazz by the Johnny Crawford Orchestra. Guests savored the delicious creations of master chef Wolfgang Puck in the main room, where they also watched the vintage couture runway show presented by Cameron Silver of Decades and styled by Elizabeth Stewart. Amazing performances by the likes of Estelle and James Valentine entertained everyone throughout the evening. The Art of Elysium celebrated the children and their families by playing a remarkable video that highlighted our mission of enriching the lives of artists and youth alike. ENTERTAINMENT Long-term supporter Chris Holmes served as the evening’s music director, synthesizing elements of old and new Hollywood. The Johnny Crawford Orchestra welcomed and entertained the crowd during cocktail hour with classic American standards, and volunteer musician Lucy Walsh performed afterword, closing her set with the original “Life is Beautiful,” a song composed with one of our child ambassadors, Angela Choi, through The Art of Elysium’s Music Programs. After making their way through the train station, guests stepped into the gorgeous dining room, where the Sonus Quartets established the perfect dinner mood. During dinner, special guest performer Estelle serenaded gala attendees with two Nina Simone covers: “My Baby Just Cares” and “Teach Me Tonight.” Later, the music transitioned into an eclectic DJ mix by Myles Hendrik that complemented the fashion show’s progression from the 1920s onward. Once the presentation portion of the evening wrapped, James Valentine introduced a curated performance by Priscilla Ahn, Z Berg, Nura Creitz, Taylor Goldsmith and David Rawlings, which included classic renditions such as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” The evening ended with a Studio 54 after-party, where guest DJ’s Chris Holmes, Zach Cowie & Elijah Wood, Shepard Fairey, Brie Larson and Chris Masterson kept the crowd dancing well into the night. FASHION SHOW MUSICAL PERFORMERS Cameron Silver curated a selection of vintage CURATED BY CHRIS HOLMES AND JAMES VALENTINE couture evening wear from Decades, and Elizabeth Stewart styled the runway show.
