Project Cross-Border Road Traffic Safety Centre for Economic

South-East Finland – Russia European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument 2007–2013 Project Cross-Border Road Traffic Safety Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for Southeast Finland and Finnish Transport Agency together with Russian road transport experts implement the Project "Cross- Border Road Traffic Safety" during the period 2012-2014. Target areas of the Project are Leningrad Region in Russia and Southeast Finland. The overall objective of the Project is harmonization of road safety principles on trans-bordering roads passing through built-up areas in Finland and Russia. The Project will support and reinforce the EU (Finland) and the Russian cross-border cooperation. Project specific work is focused on the Vyborg and Vsevolozhsk Municipal Districts in the Leningrad Region, Russia, and on Southeastern Finland. Russian Project Partners are the Leningrad Region Municipal Economy and Transport Committee, the Leningrad Region Traffic Safety Fund and the following Leningrad Region municipalities: Vsevolozhsk District, Vsevolozhsk Town, Sertolovo Town, Vyborg District, Vyborg Town and Svetogorsk Town. The Project Associated Partners are the St.Petersburg State Architecture and Civil Engineering University (SPbGASU) and St.Petersburg & Leningrad Region Administration of the State Traffic Police Inspection. Total Project Budget is Euro 1.318.000, duration of the Project is 30 months. Project is implemented starting from 1.2.2012 till 31.7.2014. The Project aims to: x improve Finnish and Russian road traffic safety and reduce traffic accidents x strengthen the local and regional traffic safety sustainability and sustainable economic development x transfer the Nordic and Finnish traffic safety knowledge to Russian transport sector professionals x involve citizens in traffic safety work (road user queries) x improve traffic safety of the vulnerable road users (pedestrians, bicyclists and schoolchildren). Among the specific works to be implemented during the Project one can mention: x Traffic Safety Programmes of the Vyborg and Vsevolozhsk Municipal Districts for the period 2014–2020 x implementation of 3–5 pilot (demonstration) projects in Vsevolozhsk and Vyborg Municipal Districts (for example, improvement of pedestrian crossing’s visibility and installation of additional traffic calming constructions) x training of local road and traffic designers in Russia x Traffic Safety Study of Southeast Finland border roads Additional information: www.ely-keskus.fi/crossborder_traffic_safety .
