Proposed Cycle Track to Seascale

Proposed Cycle Track to Seascale

THE DRIGG CHARITY WHAT IS THE DRIGG PROW PROJECT? STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES To improve the Public Rights Of Way (PROW) network by increasing opportunities for access on foot, cycle or horse, and to widen the appeal to visitors and residents; To improve the existing Public Rights Of Way (PROW) network for a wider range of people with different needs (e.g. improved accessibility for wheelchair users/pushchairs, benches for elderly); To promote the improved network to encourage more use and better support for local services (e.g. shops, pubs, hotels, B&Bs, attractions and cycle and equestrian businesses); To better integrate the project with public transport services, and other links to popular destinations. In order to achieve these objectives we need to repair and improve the existing drainage and to re- surface many of the existing Public Rights Of Way (PROW) within the parish. In addition improved access is desired (e.g. replacing stiles with gates and replacing ironmongery on existing gates). We will also investigate the possibility of setting up new routes within the parish so that we can achieve another strategic objective not listed above and that is the establishment of an Off Road Multi user Link to Seascale and Gosforth LONG TERM PLANS A partnership has been established with the Countryside Access Team of Cumbria County Council (CCC), the body responsible for PROW. This partnership provides the means to facilitate joint funding of projects. As a consequence of this relationship a rolling Five Year Plan was initiated by CCC. This plan started in 2011 and has been updated every year since. The current update is for 2014 -2015. A similar arrangement has been established with the Lake District National Park whereby individual projects are identified. Prepared by Gary Creaser Page 1 .
