Minutes – Early Years Group Meeting Date: 29 September 2016 St Mary’s C of E Primary school Present: Charlotte Stillwell- Chair of Group, Vice Principal across Portswood Academy Hollie Atwill- Yr R Leader Fairisle Infants Isabel Heslop- Yr R Leader Mansel Park Primary Amy Trenwith- EY Leader, Newlands Primary Jen Squires- EYFS Lead- Holy Family/Bitterne/Sinclair Charlotte Donovan- EYFS Lead and Assistant Headteacher at Shirley Warren Michelle Stride- Lead Practitioners- Riverside Pre-school Roisin Philip- Vice Principal and Operational Lead for Portswood Teaching School Sue Vaughan- Early Years advisor for LA Anna Aldridge- Assistant Vice Principal Early Years- Portswood Primary School 1) Welcome: CS explained the role of the Early Years Group. Main aim of the group is to support Early Years across Southampton and the PTSA do this by running courses and deployment of LP’s, SLE’s, NLE’s to drive standards and sharing good practice. PVI lead amongst the group to ensure consistency between schools and PVI settings. 2) Apologies: Miranda Dodd- Southampton University Nicki Windle- Bitterne Park Abi Rivitt- Weston Park 3) Matters arising Early Years Conference Alistair Brice-Clegg to lead. Conference fully booked and there is a waiting list. PVI’s are attending the conference as well. Stands 1- Startpoint and Riverside to have a play outside stand. 2- Healthy eating stand- to confirm whether Rachel Murray from Little Pickles is doing. ACTION 3- Holy Family Trust to confirm whether doing a stand. ACTION Jen 4- Developmental Play Stand, Sue Vaughan to do. 5- ECAT stand to be organised by Charlotte Donovan to liaise with Jan Stevens. 6- Muddy Faces providing outside play equipment. Outline of the day: see agenda Group agreed proposed agenda. Training and support to be put on feedback form and twilights on offer projected at the start of the conference. Good or better learning for every child, for every lesson PVI Twilights Varied in success in terms of attendance. Challenge of advertising twilights to PVI settings, however Sue Vaughan felt that CS had done all possible to engage. Emotional literacy support provided to one setting- with extremely positive feedback Michele explained she felt the deployment of support was taken up due to settings unsure what to ask for. Approx 30 PVI questionnaires completed. Needs identified from these are engaging boys in mark making, outdoor learning, expectations for Yr R and Understanding the World. Feedback- PVIs valued the networking of twilight sessions. 8th November- Learning environment and routines- Michelle Stride and LA 19th January- Engaging Boys in mark making 13th March- Understanding of the World 10th May- Outdoor Learning ACTION- CS to approach LP’s to facilitate the above and next group meeting organise the date for expectations for year R. Early Years Teaching Alliance Twilights amended ACTION- Gemma to note facilitator changes. Venues to remain the same. 29th September- Learning environment and timetabling- Swap Shop- Charlotte Donovan 14th October- Early Years Conference 17th November- Teaching emergent writing- Twilight- Nicki and Sue Vaughan 1st December- Emergent writing- Swap Shop- Nicki Windle 19th January- Vunerable Children- Twilight Hayley and Naomi St Marys 2nd February- Maths- Twilight- Abi Rivitt and Jen Squires 9th March- Maths- Swap shop Abi Rivitt 23rd March- Child-initiated writing- Twilight- Isabel Heslop and Amy Trenswith 11th April May- Child-initiated writing- Swap shop- Isabel Heslop and Amy Trenswith 4) Any courses to be set up- see above 5) Work undertaken as part of the group New to Yr R led by Charlotte Stilwell and Abi Rivitt on 28th September ACTION: all group members to come to the next meeting with ideas for next year’s key note l speaker for the early years conference. 6) Monitoring Charlotte Stilwell to send off review of PVI funding to National College. 7) Newsletter- To include feedback from the conference. 8) AOB- N/A 9) Date of Next meeting Tuesday 8th November - 1:30 St Denys Church Centre Good or better learning for every child, for every lesson .
