The University rf Dayton News Release JONATHAN FRIO'S 'FOOLS AND FIENDS' COMING TO UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON DAYTON, Ohio, Oct. 13, 1989--An eerie, witty and sometimes humorous show is coming to the University of Dayton. "Fools and Fiends," a storytelling delight with a definite Halloween flavor, will be presented by actor Jonathan Frid on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 8 p.m. in the Kennedy Union Ballroom on campus. Tickets are $8 and may be purchased at the door beginning 45 minutes before the performance. "Fools and Fiends" is a presentation of the UD Arts Series. Perhaps best known for his portrayal of vampire Barnabas Collins on the gothic soap opera Dark Shadows, Frid has spent four decades in television, film and the theater in the United States, Canada and England. ''Fools and Fiends" showcases Frid's adept storytelling as he relates such tales as "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allan Poe, "Mr. Preble Gets Rid of His Wife" by James Thurber and "The Man Who Loved Flowers" by Stephen King. A native of Canada, Frid received a degree from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario before attending London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. He later earned his master's degree in directing from the Yale School of Drama. He was a leading actor in English repertory for two seasons and has worked in a number of America's most celebrated regional theaters, touring nationally in the American Shakespeare Festival's acclaimed production of Much Ado About Nothing with Katharine Hepburn. He re-created his popular TV role opposite Joan Bennett in the MGM feature House of Dark Shadows, and in 1986 joined the Broadway cast of Arsenic and Old Lace for 10 months, co-starring with Jean Stapleton.
