The park’s mountainous area extends to the sea, where a ria coast (submerged coastline), striking sea cliffs, caves and reefs have developed over countless millennia. In contrast are the park’s iconic sand dunes, including the famous Tottori Sand Dunes, which are formed by sand created by marine erosion and transported via rivers. Along with these distinctive landscapes, the varied distributions of rock consistency have also led the national park to be known as a "museum of coastal topography.” In 2010, the geological significance of San’in Kaigan was recognized internationally when San'in Kaigan Geopark become a certified member of the Global Geoparks Network. San'in Kaigan National Park is located in the heart of San'in Kaigan Geopark. ■Access Tottori Sand Dunes Tottori Station Conan Airport Kinosaki Onsen Station Yonago Kitaro Airport Haneda Airport National park area Kounotori Tajima Kyoto Station JR Shinkansen Airport Osaka Station Major road Expressway Itami Airport Access route Kinosaki Onsen Station Yonago Kitaro Airport Tottori Station Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport Toyooka Station Kounotori Tajima Airport Tottori Prefecture Kyoto Uradome Coast, Prefecture Kyoto Hyogo Station Iwami Town, Prefecture Tottori Prefecture Itami Airport Okayama Momotaro Airport Okayama Station Kobe Airport 1 Approx. 140 min Approx. 140 min on JR by Tokaido-Sanyo Tokyo San’in Main Line Kinosaki Onsen Shinkansen Kyoto Station 2 3 Station Station Approx. 20 Approx. 75 min Tottori Sand min by airport Haneda by airplane Dunes Conan shuttle bus Tottori Station Airport 6 Airport Access routes are given as examples.
