TH E C H A IR M A N said he had great pleasure in O pening the ’ P O f ractical Fishermen s Conferences, and on behalf the E O f xecutive Committee, himself, and the public, he thought he might say that no greater interest could possibly have arisen in connection with these conferences than the final ones , which were to be discussed , as he hoped, by practical fishermen themselves . The subj ects placed on the agenda O f were all matters vital importance to the fishing interest, and and to the public at large, he proposed to take them the in the order in which y appeared . The first was as to d O f the estruction immature fish ; the second, harbour d accommodation ; the thir , better means for prevention O f of loss life at sea ; the fourth , railway rates ; and d an ad itional one had j ust been sent in , namely, the ’ s A ll question O f fishing vessel lights . those were mat s ters of very great intere t, and he was quite sure that when the time came for all t he unique collections which s d O f would be publi he by the executive committee, all the s s s di cu sion which had taken place, together with the essays [4 1] B 2 4 landb o o ks Prac which would be printed , that the ’ Ierm en s Congress woul d form a most interesting o ortant additi n to that work . He had now great in opening the question O f the de struction O f fish It . was a subject which had already s cussed to a great extent by various authoritie , d and s them very high authorities in eed , by ome foreign friends who had attended the conferences . er the tt had never been placed on agenda before , t had been indirectly introduced into various dis P d prominently by rofessor H uxley, when he allude [u estio n in his opening address . H e was him self 1d more impressed that it was a subj ect O f the possible difficulty, and he thought that many had not borne in mind that it was an international and one that it would be impossible for them as If to deal with alone .
