Lumiere London Thursday 18 – Sunday 21 January 2018 Operational Plans for the West End

Lumiere London Thursday 18 – Sunday 21 January 2018 Operational plans for the West End Lumiere London is a free four-night light festival, commissioned by the Mayor of London, which will be coming to the West End for the second time in January. The 2018 edition has an expanded footprint with a stunning programme of more than forty outdoor light installations stretching from Kingʼs Cross through Fitzrovia and the West End, to Westminster, Victoria, South Bank and Waterloo. In the West End, there will be festival installations in Oxford Circus, Regent Street, St Jamesʼs, Mayfair, Leicester Square, Covent Garden, Piccadilly, Chinatown, Westminster Abbey and Trafalgar Square. The event will take place over four evenings from Thursday 18 - Sunday 21 January 2018 and run from 17:30 – 22.30 each night. Produced by arts charity and creative producer Artichoke and commissioned by the Mayor of London, in 2016 the festival attracted 1.3 million visitors over four nights. It offers a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of London as a cultural destination and world city to rival all other global destinations and to bring extra footfall to local businesses at a quieter time of year. We are working closely with the Greater London Authority, Westminster City Council, The Crown Estate, Regent Street Association, Heart of London Business Alliance as well as the Metropolitan Police and Transport for London to minimise the impact on the local area and ensure that the festival runs as smoothly as possible for everyone. In the below tables, we have outlined how Lumiere London may affect your business in the following ways: • Road transport and road closures • Some bus journeys will be diverted or stop short of their destination • Tube stations close to the event area will be busier than usual More details about the event, including frequently asked questions and information on closures relating to the festival can also be found at www.visitlondon.com/Lumiere Festival artworks and locations London’s West End • W4, St James’s Church, Jermyn Street: Harmonic Portal by Chris Plant • W7, Royal Academy Courtyard: Love Motion by Rhys Coren • W8, Hotel Café Royal (viewed from Piccadilly Circus): Voyage by Camille Gross and Leslie Epsztein • W9, 103 Regent Street: Frictions by Mader Wiermann Fitzrovia • F1, Whitfield Garden: CONTROL NO CONTROL by Daniel Iregui • F2, Store Street: Cosmoscope by Simeon Nelson with Rob Godman and Nick Rothwell • F4, Fitzroy Place: Droplets by Ulf Pedersen Mayfair • M1, South Molton Street: Impulse by Lateral Office and CS Design • M7, Mount Street: Illumaphonium by Michael Davis • M8, Mount Street Gardens: [M]ondes by Atsara • M10, Berkeley Square: That Night in Berkeley Square by Cédric Le Borgne Road closures During the festival, the following roads will be closed to all traffic (including bicycles) in both directions, with closures from Thursday 18 to Sunday 21 January, between 16:30 and 23:30. After Sunday 21 January evening waste presentation times will revert back to normal. A summary of the all waste and recycling presentation times for both locations is listed below. The affected presentation times are highlighted in yellow: Day Waste Presentation Time Evening Waste Night Waste Presentation Time (not affected) Presentation Time (not affected) Regent Street 09:30 - 10:00 19:30 - 20:00 22:30 - 23:00 Piccadilly 05:30 - 06:00 18:30 - 19:00 None This means that no bagged waste, cardboard, recycling etc. can be presented on the street for as long as the affected time bands are withdrawn. This applies to everyone who presents waste on the street for collection, regardless of who collects it. Please note that any obstruction to the highway during the event could put public safety at risk, and in the event of injury or damage to property could have repercussions or may incur a fine. Whilst the evening waste presentation times are withdrawn you have the following alternatives: 1) Present your waste during the other presentation times during the morning and/or night. 2) Present your waste in a nearby street during the presentation times applicable to that street. For example: For Piccadilly based premises please present waste at one of the following locations and times: i. Old Bond Street (17:30 - 18:00) ii. Sackville Street (14:30 - 15:00) For Regent Street based customers please present waste at one of the following locations: i. Glasshouse Street (15:30 - 16:00) ii. Maddox Street (14:30 - 15:00) 3) If none of the alternatives suit, please contact the Commercial Waste team at Westminster on [email protected] for a bespoke ad-hoc collection arrangement. Businesses using the services of private waste contractors will need to contact their provider and make alternative arrangements. The private waste contractors known to operate in the affected streets have also already been notified separately. Parking on these streets will not be allowed for any vehicles during the restricted times. .
