Term 3 Week 4 Dear Parents and Caregivers 15 August 2017 2017 TERM DATES Term 3 2017 Monday 24 July- We are all very happy with the manner in which our ‘new’ school assemblies worked last Friday. If Friday 29 September you have not caught up with the change a brief description follows Term 4 1. We are no longer using the Waikanae Memorial Hall except for the final End of Year Prize Monday 16 October - Giving Assembly. Instead we are using the school hall where we are dividing the school in half Friday 15 December and having two smaller and shorter assemblies. The only exception to this is when it is fine, warm and dry where we will be using the Top Court for a whole school assembly. 2. The Assemblies are being held on Friday afternoons. The first of these was Friday 11 August The next 3 assembles with be held on the following dates; Friday 25 August, Friday 8 September and Friday 22 September Te Waharua Tahi/Tahi (Years 1-4) starting at 1.40pm Te Aramoana and Te Poutama (Years 5-8) starting at 2.20pm Overtime we may mix and match the syndicates or houses so that we have differing groups and students at each assembly. All parents and friends of the school are welcome!! Due to the large number of families sending students to school before 8.30 the school is considering keeping all classrooms locked until 8.15am. Our official opening time is 8.30 am as there is no supervision offered before this time. The only exception to this are the students arriving on the Peka Peka and Reikorangi school buses. This is a major Health and Safety issue and we cannot reasonably be expected to take on this role until 8.30am. We remind parents that an Out of School Care Service operates in the school hall every morning. ‘Funzone’ is the company that offers these child care services and their rates are very reasonable. So if you do not want your child locked out in the cold and wet, please either do not send your child to school prior to 8.30am or make use of the Out of School Care Service available. Before School Care from 7:00am – 8:30am and After School Care from when School Finishes to 7:00pm at Waikanae School. For more information go to www.funzone.co.nz, call 0800 543 9696 or email to [email protected]. Congratulations to our Year 6 Mastermind Team Georgia Martin, Joe Popham, Isabel Spencer, Caitlyn White and Ian Incledon who came 2nd in the Mastermind finals last Friday! They had to read 15 of the New Zealand Book Awards and answer heaps of questions on them. The competition was against all the schools on the Kapiti Coast. Well done team Waikanae! 17 August Senior Winter Tournament (yr 7-8) 25 August Assembly at school 30 August Board of Trustees Meeting 7.30pm School Staffroom This Terms Activity Fees have been emailed out to all families. Firstly, we send out an Invoice for each child. This means that larger families will get multiple Invoices (depending on the number of children attending Waikanae School). Secondly, the Invoices will be followed by a Family Statement (1 per family). The amounts for this Terms Activity Fee per Syndicate are as Follows Syndicate Description Amount Te Waharua Tahi Science show, Mathletics, Discovery Time $15.00 Rooms 5,6,7,8,9,20 and 21 Te Waharua Rua Science show, Mathletics, Gymnastics $33.00 Rooms 1,2,3, and 4 Te Aramoana Science show, Swimming, Reading Eggs $76.00 Rooms 17,18,19 and Year 6s in Rooms 10 and 11 Te Poutama Rooms 14,15 16 and Science show, Kiwi Hoops $15.00 Year7s in Rooms 10 and 11 The Activity Fee is a compulsory payment which the school is able to insist on payment for. • Participation by students in Activity Fee funded activities is voluntary. • Any parent that does not want their child to participate in any of the Activity Fee funded activities must withdraw their child by notifying the office (in writing). The easiest way to do this is to email the office at this address [email protected] Following notification of a student’s withdrawal, staff will ensure that an alternative programme is organised for the student or students concerned. The school fully understands that ‘cash flow’ is an issue for many families and as a result the school is completely willing and prepared for families to drip feed these accounts over time by setting up an Automatic Payment. The school suggests that something between $5 and $15 per week would resolve all debts owed and reduce the burden of larger payments on families. ASB 12-3157-0107950-00 Please use child’s name as a reference. Importantly we do not have an issue with Families being in debt as long as a suitable Automatic Payment is in operation to cover the debt over time. BBT 539—Leaving car in the drop off bay. Each fortnight we will be focusing on one of our school values. We are currently focusing on “PERSEVERANCE” Touch registrations are now open. Forms are at the end of this newsletter or can be picked up from the office. Registration closes on 1 September. We are in desperate need of a Touch Coordinator. The main roles for a School Touch Coordinator are: -Attend committee meetings and inform schools of required information during the season. -Organise registration at school, sort into teams and assign coaches -Be the KJT contact for your coaches throughout the season, should any issues arise. -Be available to assist KJT one night per week at module. -Have a great time and meet lots of new people! We will assist new coordinators as best we can. We will also be needing coaches, if a team does not have a coach they will be unable to play. The Touch NZ Level 1 Practical Coaching Course for school/module coaches is being held at Mazengarb next Thursday Night and is free to all. Please let the office know if you are interested. The second 5 week round of these sessions will be starting up again from Tuesday 29th August to 26th September. There is ANOTHER FORM to fill out for the second session which will be available from the office OR in the file section of the Waikanae School Netball FB group. This will need to be returned and the $30 fee for the 5 week programme be paid for by Friday 18th August.
