Town, Village or Hamlet WILLEY GREEN - (entire) Boundary of Enumeration District The compiler of the original census return appears to have started his Willey Green tour at Frog Grove Farm, worked his way along the Aldershot Road up to Tickners Bridge and then either used the short cut to Bailes Lane or retraced his steps to the turning on the Aldershot Road at Willey Green and then proceeded down Bailes Lane finally cutting across to Wood Street via Passengers Farm. The entries were transcribed from microfische copies of the originals and are held in the Surrey History Abreviations used in “Condition as to Marriage” column M – married ; S - Single ; W - Widow/Widower Under “Medical Incapacity” 1 - Deaf and Dumb; 2 - Deaf; 3 - Blind; 4 - Lunatic; 5 - Imbecile, Feeble Minded. Transcribed from the originals in 2007 by member J W Kinder Census of Willey Green 1901 © Normandy Historians 2007 Downloaded from www.normandyhistorians.co.uk DISCLAIMER The compiler of the Census Return appears to have started his Willey Green tour at Frog Grove, Wood Street Village, worked his way along Frog Grove Lane then used a field path (now defined as a public footpath), to Wipley Farm and so to Willey Green continuing his survey at what is now Chapel Farm Cottage and then along the present Aldershot Road and Guildford Road, past the Duke of Normandy Public House to the last cottage now known as 1 Willey Green Cottages. He then proceeded southwards in Bailes Lane finally cutting across to Wood Street village via The following is an attempt to identify the various properties listed in this census return. It is open to discussion and alteration. 1. Schd No 19 Whipley House is possibly the site of Frog Grove 2. Schd.No 20 Frog Grove Farm is now Frog Grove House 3. Schd.No 21 & 22 These cottages now form Compton Barn. 4. Schd.No 23 Wipley Farm is now known as Whipley Manor, Aldershot Road. 5. Schd.No.24 Elm Cottage is now Chapel Farm Cottage. 6. Schd.No 25 This is now The Homestead. 7. Schd.No.26 Later this was The Wrens Nest occupied by the Wakeford Family 8. Schd.No 27 & 28 Existing cottages, now named Park View Cottages 9.
