Drainage from the San Antonio River basin is to the southeast. The Guadalupe River basin occupies approximately 2 percent of the County as a small portion of the central northern sec tion. The two major rivers in the County are the Sabinal River, located in the Nueces River basin, and the Medina River, located in the San Antonio River Basin. The larger rivers are dom- inantly effluent and form wide valleys. Two dominant types characterize the smaller creeks and streams: the perennial spring-fed streams and the intermittent creeks that only transport precipitation runoff.
