Postgame Notes & Quotes Stanley Cup Playoffs | Western Conference Semifinals | Game 1 San Jose Sharks 5, Colorado Avalanche 2 Friday, April 26, 2019 Colorado finished 1-for-3 on the power play and has tallied a man-advantage goal in four straight games, going 6-for-20 (30%) over that span. Gabriel Bourque registered his first goal of the 2019 postseason and the sixth of his career. Three of Bourque’s playoff tallies have come with the Avalanche, as he scored two in last year’s first-round series against the Nashville Predators. Cale Makar has points in consecutive games (2a) for the first time in his career. Tyson Jost notched his first point of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs and his second career postseason assist. Colin Wilson registered his third goal of the playoffs, his most goals in a single postseason since 2016 (5 with Nashville). Wilson has totaled five points so far in the playoffs, tied for third (Tyson Barrie) on the team. Matt Calvert recorded eight hits, a postseason career high. Mikko Rantanen finished with an assist and now has 10 points (5g/5a) in the playoffs, ranked third among all skaters and tops among players remaining in the playoff race. Colorado LW Gabriel Landeskog On The Avs’ Four-Minute Power Play: “It is not going to kill you, but it is going to shift the momentum in their way a little bit, especially when you are in their rink like we are here, they are going to feed off that penalty kill. I thought we created some chances, and we had a couple good looks. Jones made some good saves. Scoring 3-1 there or them scoring 2-2, that is a big difference. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get that one.” On Preparing For Game 2: “It is about having a short memory when you are in the playoffs, and I think that is what we are going to have to do. Learn from this one here tonight and see what we can do better. I say it all the time and then get back to work tomorrow and be better come Sunday. I feel good about our team, I feel good about where we are at. Tonight, for whatever reason, it looked like we got caught in the moment a little bit there in the second period and let them take over and couple mistakes, so we will have to be better there.” Colorado D Tyson Barrie On Game 1: “I think it is a disappointing result for us, but it is going to be a long series and we have to turn the page. We will watch some video and go over some things and learn from our mistakes and be ready to go for Game 2.” On The Team’s Strong Play Early On: “I think we had it for the majority of the first half of the game, it just got away from us a little bit. Give them credit, they played a good second half of that game and they had the momentum. But we got to find a way to get it back, and I think a four-minute power play like that would have been a good chance for us.” Colorado Head Coach Jared Bednar On Second Period Momentum: “They make a push, and we have to push back. What we didn’t do in that last 10 minutes, that was more on us. I could live with the score 2- 2 and the two goals we gave up, but it is that 10 minutes. We stopped putting pucks in behind their defense, we got fancy at the O-zone line and, like I said, we lost too many races. They were first to the puck and third to the puck in their zone and in our zone and kind of flipped the script on us. We got to be better there.” On Moving On To Game 2: “We are going to come out strong for Game 2, there is no question. I think we did enough good things in this game that we can look at and some things where we shot ourselves in the foot and it ended up costing us the game. The one goal they get a break on, its shot off of our defenseman’s upper chest, face area and then it hits a skate. The other ones are just quick plays so there are a lot of things that we can improve on, and we will have to in order to win Game 2.” .
