MAISON VIALADE MARSELAN UPD 03/2019 Organic - Vegan Producer: Claude Vialade Appellation: IGP Pays d’Oc Origin: Occitania Red varietals: This red wine is made from Marselan. Marselan is a crossing between the Cabernet and Grenache Noir grape varieties with two characteristics: it has a short foliar cycle (optimal ripening) in a cool area where Carignan did not ripen properly, and soft tannins. Soil types: The vineyards are located in two areas – in western Aude and the terraces of the Corbières around Fabrezan. They enjoy a Mediterranean climate where day time heat is offset by cool night time temperatures due to average elevation. This promotes development of aroma in the grapes during the ripening phase and produces a diversified range of wines. Vineyard management: The vines are pruned using the Guyot system and harvested by machine. They are farmed organically. Winemaking: Harvesting is done entirely by machine by night. The crop is entirely destemmed before entering the tanks. Fermentation then follows at controlled temperatures of around 26°C to start with, dropping to 22°C at the end of fermentation which lasts for 25 to 30 days. Regular, frequent pumping over is designed to reveal the varietal’s full potential. Fermentation uses wild yeasts with limited amounts of SO2 and no fining. None of the inputs are of animal origin or tested on animals. Tasting notes: This wine is a fusion of the finesse of the Grenache and the body of the Cabernet. It is finely fruity and spicy on the nose whilst the palate unfurls harmoniously due to the ripe, soft tannins.
