MARISA MARitime Integrated Surveillance Awareness 4th MARISA Newsletter February 2020 MARISA End User contributions play essential role in MARISA Trials The MARISA End-User Community shared with the consortium the capability gaps for future enhanced Maritime Integrated Surveillance Awareness system in the first year of the MARISA Project. Furthermore, the MARISA End-User Community hosted and co-organised the MARISA Phase-1 and Phase-2 Trials. The project’s iterative approach with two trial periods, allowed MARISA End-User Community to detail and refine with the consortium their capability requirements. The MARISA End-User Community experts detailed relevant operational scenarios for the MARISA Trials for the testing and validation of the MARISA Toolkit. MARISA cross border Iberian Trial with Spanish Guardia Civil and Portuguese Navy The Iberian Sea operational trial Phase 2 took place successfully on 30th September - 3rd October 2019. Two countries were involved, hosted by the Guardia Civil in Spain and by Marinha in Portugal. The trial was supported by GMV, INOV & Inovaworks. Two configurations of the MARISA toolkit have been used in this trial: one MARISA node at Portuguese Navy Maritime Operations Centre (MOC) in Lisbon and the other node at Guardia Civil National Coordination Centre (NCC) in Madrid. Both MARISA nodes were connected with its respective EUCISE nodes and they shared maritime information through the EUCISE network. The NLCG organised a dedicated training exercise “MARISA Alert” in the maritime security and safety domain coinciding with the trial involving NLCG operational assets with relevant scenarios. A MARISA Toolkit configuration was deployed in the NLCG operational back up facility in Den Helder. The aim of this second set of trials was to make use of the MARISA Toolkit for enhanced maritime situational awareness using sensor data provided by the Hellenic Navy via their National EUCISE node. There were many scenarios demonstrated such as those involving maritime safety, irregular immigration, smuggling and suspicious behaviours in the Aegean Sea. A sub-set of services of the MARISA Toolkit were used according to the user’s requirements. The operators were satisfied with the results of the trial and made use of the MARISA toolkit in their daily duties. The Hellenic Navy (HMOD) and the Italian Navy (ITN) hosted the trial and validated the MARISA Toolkit Services in cross-order surveillance scenarios and cooperation related to the irregular immigration, smuggling, maritime security and safety, common situation awareness and sharing of information. The trial has been leaded by Leonardo with the collaboration of Satways. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 4th MARISA Newsletter - February 2020 2 _________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Two interconnected MARISA Toolkits have been set-up, one in Italy and one in Greece. The MARISA Toolkits interfaced the Legacy Systems of ITN and HMOD (via the National EUCISE Node) receiving live AIS in the area from ITN Coastal Surveillance stations and HMOD sensors. Furthermore, various heterogeneous data (historic AIS, satellite, OSINT, ocean and meteo) were integrated and fused to demonstrate the numerous services of the toolkit for object assessment, behaviour analysis, prediction of future states, common situation awareness and sharing of data. Besides the MARISA practitioners, several end users and national authorities participated to the workshop activities. The main objective was to present the final version of the MARISA toolkit and the results of the second and final campaign of MARISA operational trials. A discussion was held on how the exploitation of the MARISA services could contribute to: improve and extend maritime border situational awareness, improve operational support to Search and Rescue activities, reduce death at sea while contrasting irregular immigration and cross border crime. The status of the exploitation and standardization activities was also presented and the stakeholders expressed their ideas about the future use of the MARISA toolkit.
