Harvard Alumni Association (HAA) Reunion Coordinators Michele Blanc and Shealan Conway and members of their staff will be at the information desk from 8:00 a.m. (7:00 a.m. on Commencement Day) until midnight to answer your questions and render assistance. Security personnel will be on duty from midnight until 8:00 a.m. in case of emergencies. CHILDREN’S PROGRAM OVERVIEW It is recommended that parents escort their children to the appropriate age-specific group headquarters or point of departure each day. Each group of children will have its own full program. Breakfast has been scheduled daily at Annenberg Hall starting at 6:30 a.m. so that children can join their groups in time for the first activity, starting at 8:30, 9:00, or 9:30 depending on the particular day. Please note start times in this guide. Children should finish breakfast by the time indicated in parentheses in order to be on time for their first activity. If a child is signed up for evening activities only, please meet up with your group’s counselors/directors at the start of dinner. It is very important that parents notify their child’s group whenever a child will not participate in a scheduled activity. Entire groups are delayed if a child is unaccounted for. Please notify the group director or a counselor directly if your child will not be participating in a particular activity. You may also call headquarters at 617-495-2881 and inform the student on duty. 1 If you are commuting to Harvard, please make arrangements with your child’s counselor or director so that your child will be brought to Straus Common Room after evening activities to be looked after until you return from your evening event. Night sitters and night counselors will not look after children at off-campus locations. After evening events, counselors will escort children in all groups who are staying on campus to their rooms. Rainbow, Canary, and Grape Group night sitters will look after these youngest children in their rooms. Night counselors for children in the Red, Blue, Green, and Young Adult Groups will be on duty in the entries of the dormitories; children participating in these groups will not have one-on-one sitting in their rooms. All nighttime supervision ends at 12:30 a.m. Please plan accordingly. Note that supervision for children participating in the Children’s Program will end at 11 a.m. on Sunday. TICKETS AND NAME BADGES Name badges will serve as identification and tickets for all Children’s Program events and care. Children must wear their name badges at all times during Reunion. Lost name badges can be replaced at headquarters (Phillips Brooks House). LIABILITY FOR INJURY OR LOSS Every reasonable precaution is being taken for the safety of your children. However, no individual or committee can or does assume liability for injury to any person or for loss of, or damage to, property at any time or place during Reunion. Please keep the doors to your rooms locked at all times. 2 PROCTORED EXAMINATIONS If you have previously arranged for your child to take a proctored examination while at Harvard, check at headquarters (Phillips Brooks House) to schedule an exam. Exams will be held on Saturday, unless otherwise arranged. TIPPING COUNSELORS Students perform various duties throughout Reunion and greatly appreciate gratuities. An envelope for gratuities will be provided in your registration packet for your convenience; please write the group and counselor’s name on the envelope. HALF-DAYS/PART-DAYS If you have signed up your child for the evening activities only, please meet up with the group at the start of dinner. It is your responsibility to locate your child’s counselors/directors at this time. Children in the Rainbow and Canary Groups need to be dropped off at the basement of Thayer Hall by 4:30 p.m. for evening activities and nighttime care. If you would like to have your child join the day’s activities once activities have begun, please first proceed to Phillips Brooks House. HAA staff will contact the appropriate group director and coordinate a meeting. If your child cannot meet up with the group because the group is off campus, he or she will be able to meet up with his or her group when they return. 3 RAINBOW GROUP Headquarters: Thayer Hall Basement Cecilia Laguarda, co-director: Cecilia is going to be a junior at Harvard next year studying human evolutionary biology with a secondary in English. She lives in Adams House and serves on the House Committee as secretary. She rows for the women’s varsity heavyweight crew team. Cecilia has three younger siblings and loves spending time volunteering and working with kids. She worked as a counselor in the Rainbow and Canary Groups last year and is looking forward to being a director this year. Emma Payne, co-director: Emma just completed her junior year at Harvard. She lives in Dunster House and concentrates in neurobiology with a secondary field in economics. She is a distance runner on the Harvard cross country and track teams and also works to promote environmental sustainability on campus. She loves kids and has spent many summers as a camp counselor at Pleasant Valley Camp in New Hampshire, and she has also worked for Harvard as a Children’s Program counselor for the past two years. She is excited to return as a director this year and hopes to make this year even more fun than the last. Please note: the Rainbow and Canary programs, for children ages 18 months to 5 years old, are only available for children of 25th Reunion alumni. WEDNESDAY, MAY 27 REGISTRATION 1:00 PM–MIDNIGHT, Phillips Brooks House WELCOME RECEPTION 5:00–8:00 PM, Phillips Brooks House Tent Parents, please stop by with your kids before the Children’s Program orientation. 4 ORIENTATION RAINBOW 6:00–9:00 PM, Thayer Hall Basement Drop in any time for an informal orientation and meet the directors and counselors. Refreshments will be served. After orientation, counselors will accompany children to their rooms for nighttime care. NIGHTTIME CARE ENDS 12:30 AM THURSDAY, MAY 28 BREAKFAST 6:30–9:30* AM, Annenberg Hall (*if participating in the morning program, finish breakfast by 8:50 AM) SOUND SCIENCE FUN 9:30–11:00 AM, Geological Lecture Hall The Rainbow Group will meet in the basement of Thayer Hall at 9:00 a.m. The group will then proceed to the Geological Lecture Hall on Oxford Street for an entertaining presentation by musician Christina Thompson Lively. LUNCH NOON–2:00 PM, Thayer Hall Basement The Rainbow Group will eat lunch with their counselors and participate in counselor-run activities. QUIET TIME 2:00–5:00 PM, Thayer Hall Basement Rainbow Group children can nap or play with their counselors in headquarters or outside (weather permitting). 5 KIDS’ DINNER 5:00–6:30 PM, Tent on the Plaza, Meyer Gate (adjacent to the Science Center) Children will enjoy dinner in the tent on the Plaza while parents dine in Annenberg Hall. PUPPET SHOW 6:30–7:30 PM, Lowell Lecture Hall After dinner, the Rainbow Group will proceed to Lowell Lecture Hall and watch Caravan Puppets perform Timeless Tales—wondrous world tales for everyone! After the show, counselors will accompany children to their rooms for nighttime care. NIGHTTIME CARE ENDS 12:30 AM FRIDAY, MAY 29 BREAKFAST 6:30–9:30* AM, Annenberg Hall (*if participating in the morning program, finish breakfast by 8:50 AM) ARTS AND CRAFTS 9:30–11:00 AM, Annenberg Tent The Rainbow Group will meet in the basement of Thayer Hall at 9:00 a.m. The group will then proceed to the Annenberg tent, where arts-and-crafts maven Lucia Norberg will facilitate the activities while musician Rick Goldin strums along on his guitar. LUNCH 11:30 AM–1:00 PM, Annenberg Tent HARVARD MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY 1:00–2:00 PM, 26 Oxford Street 6 QUIET TIME RAINBOW 2:00–5:00 PM, Thayer Hall Basement Rainbow Group children can nap or play with their counselors in headquarters or outside (weather permitting). DINNER 5:00–6:30 PM, Tent on the Plaza Rainbow Group children will eat dinner with their counselors and other groups in the tent on the Plaza. BIG JOE THE STORYTELLER 6:30–7:30 PM, Lowell Lecture Hall Big Joe the Storyteller will entertain with a show full of laughter, surprises, and shared fun. After the show, counselors will accompany children to their rooms for nighttime care.
