Mobile Rawdogs Rule Babe Ruth Baseball 16-18 World Series Once Again The Mobile (Alabama) Rawdogs won the 2014 Babe Ruth 16-18 World Series in Ephrata, Washington, claiming a 9-4 victory over Klamath Falls, Oregon. The Rawdogs now have won nine of the past 14 Babe Ruth 16-18 World Series crowns. When the field has been narrowed to the final two ball clubs, one might expect the championship game of the 16-18 World Series to be a low scoring competitive contest. And that’s what fans witnessed initially in the game between Alabama and Oregon as neither team was able to produce a run for the first two innings. But they came in bunches over the next five. Klamath Falls’ Jesse Hilyard lit up the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when he landed a one-out bases loaded ball over the left-center wall to put his team up 4-0. A two-out rally in the top of the fourth fueled by three singles and two Klamath Falls errors, got the defending champion Alabama right back in it, 4-3. Alabama scored three runs off four hits and another Klamath Falls error in the fourth to go up top for the first time in the contest Three runs in the sixth and seventh innings powered the Rawdogs into the lead. Pitcher Tony Kucera retired Klamath Falls in order in the bottom of the frame and the Rawdogs captured back-to-back championships. Kucera pitched 4.2 innings, allowing one hit, one run and striking out five for the Rawdogs, with Landon Presnall pitching 2.1 innings, allowing four hits and three runs and striking out two. Paul Chisholm, who was 3-for-4 in the title game with four runs batted in, was named the tournament Most Valuable Player. He received help at the plate from teammates Cory Childress and Will Luft. Childress was 2-for-4 with one run batted in and Luft was 2-for-3 with three runs scored. Alabama lost its first game of the tournament, 4-1, to Tri Township, Pennsylvania, but won its next four games in claiming the championship. The Rawdogs, led by manager Tony Hendrix and assistants Chris Taylor and Brett Hendrix (a former Rawdogs player), defeated Columbia, Basin, Washington, 4-3, and Charleston, Missouri, 13-1, before topping Cape Cod, Massachusetts, 4-3, in the semifinals.
