Photo credit: Apollo 8 Apollo 8, the first manned mission to the Moon, entered lunar orbit on Christmas Eve, 1968. The astronauts; Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, & William Anders did a live T.V. broadcast from lunar orbit, showing pictures of the Earth. Lovell said, "The vast loneliness is awe-inspiring and it makes you realize just what you have back there on Earth." William Anders: "For all the people on Earth the crew of Apollo 8 has a message we would like to send you". "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness." Jim Lovell: "And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.
