Metopon is currently listed as sub-item 1(20) Metopon (dihydromethylmorphinone) in Schedule I to the CDSA under the heading “Opium Poppy (Papaver somniferum), its preparations, derivatives, alkaloids and salts including”. Since 14-methoxymetopon is neither a metabolite nor synthetic derivative of metopon, it cannot be captured under sub-item 1(20) of Schedule I to the CDSA. However, 14-methoxymetopon contains the core structure of the morphinans and therefore must be included under item 10 “Morphinans, their salts, derivatives and salts of derivatives including” of Schedule I to the CDSA. 3 Recommendation: 14-Methoxymetopon is included under item 10 of Schedule I to the CDSA and is a controlled substance.
