Introduction - Why study a childcare qualification? A qualification in childcare opens up the possibility of a number of interesting and challenging career paths. You may be interested in returning to study after a break and there are short and long term options to suit your personal needs. You may already have a childcare qualification and be looking for further study to improve your career options or just wish to take a course for personal development. Either way, there has never been a better time to pursue a career in childcare. If you are interested in finding out more about a particular course you should contact the college directly. How much will a course cost me? Course fees depend on individual circumstances; you may be entitled to study a course without charge. You should contact course providers directly to find out what fees you may need to pay. Financial Support If you are already in paid work in a Brent Private, Voluntary or Independent Setting you may be able to access partial funding from the Local Authority. Tax Credits Child tax credit – for most families on incomes up to £50,000, or families with a baby under 1 year. Working Tax Credit – for low income families with one parent working at least 16 hours per week Childcare element of Working Tax Credit – for low income families with childcare costs and both parents working at least 16 hours per week You may be able to claim up to 70% of childcare costs up to £175 per week (up to £122.50) for one child or 70% of costs up to £300 per week (up to £210) for two or more children through the childcare element of Working Tax Credit. You can claim childcare element Working Tax Credit if you and the partner you live with are working at least 16 hours per week. You can also call 0845 300 3900 Funding Support What help is available for full-time students with children If you are a full-time student with children you may qualify for extra financial help on top of the standard student finance package. If you are starting or continuing a course in September you can claim up to £175 a week towards the cost of Ofsted registered childcare.
