As troubling as it was, we looked at it as novel, a time to be creative and develop ways to keep our community united, strong and growing. When we thought of the “Virtual Dinner” concept we were all excited about this new, innovative way to stay together and remain safe. Today, many have followed suit with a Virtual Dinner, along with virtual Yizkor, on-line Chometz sales, Zoom Siyums and Drive-by Kiddushim. Today these ideas are not so novel, but sadly, just as necessary. So, here we are with our second Virtual Dinner and I have to say, it promises to be a worthwhile, important and entertaining event. We are privileged to be honouring Patti Dolman. Patti has been at the forefront of our programming for close to two decades. Patti has spearheaded the Shavuot Bake Sale, the Used Book Sale, the International Chulent Cook-Off, speakers, Women’s Rosh Chodesh evenings and many other programs. Patti is creative, hardworking and selflessly gives of herself in so many ways. Our Tribute Dinner is our community’s way of celebrating the fact that we have been strong, we have persevered, and have even grown during a time of uncertainty. Will we be open next week? How will we read Megillah for 500 people if we are only allowed ten at a time? How are we going to celebrate Simchat Torah if we cannot dance? How many Shabbat guests will we miss out on? Yet, our Shul community, the glue that holds us together, has proven to be quite strong and resilient. The rules may change every two weeks, but we roll with the punches. When ten is the limit, we are ten, when it is 30% or 50 people, more in a tent than indoors- we take it in stride and follow through. We have kept the rules and advice of the government and medical community and, thank G-d, we have remained safe. We stayed strong, united and followed the policies enacted to keep everyone safe and while they were difficult, we stood tall and became an example to the community of how we care for each other and our families. It has been a challenging but remarkable year. With the assistance, love and participation of so many of our members, our community continues to grow and become even closer. Special thank you to our honouree Patti Dolman, for accepting the Tzarchei Tzibur Award, our newly elected Board of Directors, and our event Co-Chairs Joelle Stein & Leora Mandel. I look forward to celebrating with everyone at our annual event. This year we truly have something to celebrate! Sincerely, Rabbi Avram Rothman Rabbi Avram Rothman, Senior Rabbi 949 Clark Avenue W, Thornhill, Ontario, L4J-8G6 - 905.764.1891- [email protected] - thornhillshul.com Dear Friends, The newly installed Board of Directors of the Aish Thornhill Community Shul welcomes everyone to our 11th Annual Tribute Dinner. It is hard to believe that circumstances have once again compelled us to hold the event virtually, but it is a testimony to the commitment of our members and the affection that we have for each other that we have found a way to gather and support our wonderful Shul and honour our beloved member, Patti Dolman. Patti has been active in all aspects of our shul, whether it is welcoming guests on Shabbat, creating and managing charity events, playing an active role in the Sisterhood or attending classes. What’s more, Patti does it all with class, sensitivity to others and humour. Charles, you are a very blessed husband! A special thank you to Rabbi and Rebbetzin Rothman, Event Co-Chairs: Joelle Stein and Leora Mandel , the ATCS Staff: Hadassah Hoffer, Wendy Sacks and Robert Walker for attending to every aspect of the dinner.
