Baguio City Ecological Profile 2018 Chapter III POPULATION AND SOCIAL PROFILE POPULATION SIZE The 2018 projected population of Baguio City is 361,569 based on the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015), with a growth rate of 1.54. This means that there were about 15 persons added per year for every 1,000 persons in the population. The average household size in 2015 was 3.8 persons. In the same period, total household population was 342,200 persons, higher by 26,400 persons from the household population of 315,800 persons in 2010. Tomas Proper 7,058 Baguio City, considered as one of the highly urbanized cities of the country, composed of 129 barangays. Barangay Irisan had the largest population with 30,507 persons or 8.83 percent of the total population of the entire city. This was followed by barangay Asin Road with 3.81 percent and barangay Camp 7 with 3.18 percent. Females outnumbered males in all age groups except for the younger age group (1-4 years) where males outnumbered their female counterparts. Children below 15 years of age comprises 47.73 percent while older persons (65 years and over) accounted for 6.17 percent. LABOR FORCE Fig 3: Major Occupation Group, Baguio City Of the total population in 2015, 39.0 percent or 134,720 persons were engaged in a gainful activity. Service and Sales Based on the 2015 census, by 21% major occupation group, workers Elementary engaged in service and sales 37% occupations comprised the largest group at 20.7 15% Professionals percent of all persons with gainful 13% activity. Elementary occupations 14% Managers came in next at 14.8 percent, followed by professionals and Others managers at 14.4 percent and 13.0 percent, respectively. POVERTY INCIDENCE The 1st Semester 2018 official Poverty Statistics released by the Philippine Statistics Authority(PSA) shows that Baguio City has a poverty incidence of 2.8 among families or 2, 640 households were within the poverty threshold. The 2018 annual Per Capita Poverty threshold (in PhP) is 11,820 or a family needs Php 47,280 annually in order to sustain the basic needs of an average household size of 4. Roseville Rehabilitation Complex Company is a special hospital that offers psychiatric treatment rehabilitation services for emotionally unstable and drug- alcohol related disorders. An increase of 21 bed capacity of Notre Dame de Chartres Hospital is due to the construction of a new building. However, SLU- Hospital of the Sacred Heart Hospital bed capacity decreased due to its renovation. In 2018, the total livebirths is 5,574 or on the average, there were about fifteen (15) babies born daily. Further, recorded livebirths in the City decreased by 0.64 percent. Several factors is contributory to the decline such as intensive information, education campaign (IEC) on responsible parenthood and family planning programs. Reported deaths in 2018 reached 1,573 or an increase of 2.4 percent from 2017. This is equivalent to a crude death rate of four (4) persons per thousand population. Notable is in 2018 where there was no maternal deaths reported for Baguio residents as a result of programs and activities implemented under the maternal and child care.
