But in the last year it faced its most difficult time – the financial crisis has reached Leixlip with full force and the Festival, like other Voluntary groups, found itself with difficult decisions to make, will we or won’t we go ahead, after many discussions, and meetings with our main sponsors, a decision was reached to continue with Leixlip Festival. The fact that such a Community Festival is going on is no feat to be taken for granted. First and foremost, a big thank-you needs to be extended to the inhabitants of Leixlip who have actively been supporting the Festival over the years. We are very proud to be celebrating this year our 22nd Festival, the Festival Committee have been hard at work over the last number of months to bring you an unbeatable line-up of festival events, you will see this from the programme we have organised for you. Its members represented business, cultural/heritage, education, sports, all aspects of life in Leixlip including members of the Town Commission. The inaugural festival took place on the June Bank Holiday weekend 1990.
