Media release Friday, 7 March 2014 Future of music secured for Randwick Racecourse The Future Music Festival will call Randwick Racecourse home for the next 10 years after the proposal was ticked off by Planning and Infrastructure. The Festival has been held at Randwick for the past six years and this weekend’s festival is expected to attract up to 50,000 people on Saturday and up to 20,000 on Sunday. It attracts international artists – this year featuring Grammy winners Pharrell Williams, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis – as well as host of other dance, rap and R&B stars. A spokesperson from Planning and Infrastructure said that the Future Music Festival had evolved into one of Australia’s premier outdoor music events. “This decision gives festival-goers, the organisers and the local community certainty for the next decade,” they said. “The Future Music Festival has built a reputation over the past eight years as a world-class Australian music event – up there with the Falls Festival and Big Day Out. “It’s held in every Australian capital city – and this decision makes sure organisers have a Sydney venue locked in for the next decade.” A spokesperson said that the approval was consistent with the Australian Turf Club’s plans to make better use of Randwick Racecourse outside of race days. “The proposal was exhibited and submissions were received mainly around noise and transport,” they said. “We’ve made sure that noise mitigation measures are in place and a key stakeholder group has been set up to make sure the festival complies with the conditions we’ve set.” Media contact: (02) 9228 6128 .
