Train tickets are sold at the station counter and at automated machines. You can pay with cash or by credit card. Alternatively, you can buy the tickets on-line: www.trenitalia.it The Rome Fiumicino “Leonardo da Vinci” Airport (FCO) is connected to the city centre via a direct express train and slower trains on the FR1 Regional Railway line. Leonardo Express: - direct train to Termini Station; - journey time 30 minutes; - ticket costs € 14; - the train leaves the airport every 30 minutes from 6:36 am to 11:36 pm. By Bus A number of bus companies provide transportation from the airport to the centre of Rome (‘Termini’ central train station or Piazza Cavour - Vatican Area). Tickets cost €4-6 one-way and €8/12 return trip; the journey lasts ca. 1 hour, but traffic during peak hours can severely delay the buses. Night bus 40N (€4.50) connects the airport with the train stations of Rome Tiburtina and Rome Termini; tickets cost €4.50; buses depart at 1:15 am, 2:15 am, 3:30 am and 5:00 am; tickets are sold on board. By Taxi The cost of a taxi ride from Fiumicino Airport to the city centre (within the Aurelian Walls) is €48. Beware of taxi drivers trying to overcharge you. All costs should be clearly indicated and available inside of the taxi and agreed. Taxis in Rome are white and they have an identification name and number on the front door. 2) From Ciampino Airport By Bus Direct bus services from Ciampino to Termini station are provided by several bus companies (SIT, Terravision, Schiaffini); tickets can be bought at the airport; tickets cost €4.00/€4.50 4 | P a g e By Bus and Train To get to Rome city centre from Ciampino airport (CIA) you can take a bus (Cotral) at the airport to the Underground (Metro) Line A station in Anagnina; tickets cost €1.20; buses leave every 40 minutes from 6:00 am to 10:40 pm. From Anagnina, you can take the underground or city buses; you can use the same ticket for buses and the underground; the ticket costs € 1.50 (valid for one Metro ride or 75 minutes on all buses). Alternatively, you can catch the bus from the airport to Ciampino railway station; tickets cost €1.50 from there you can board a train to Termini station; tickets cost €1.30; journey time 15-20 minutes. By Taxi The cost of a taxi ride from Ciampino to the city centre (within the Aurelian Walls) is €30. Beware of taxi drivers trying to overcharge you. All costs should be clearly indicated and available inside of the taxi. Also, make sure you are taking a Rome Taxi Cab and not a Ciampino Taxi Cab, as the latter will be far more expensive. 5 | P a g e Information about Public Transport system of Rome Buses, Underground, Urban Trains and Trams Metrebus is Rome’s public transport system, which incorporates different types of services: tube/subway (metro), urban trains (treno metropolitano), buses and trams. Most buses run from 5:30am to 12:00am (night buses are available after midnight). Underground trains run from 5:30pm to 11:30pm Sunday to Thursday and from 5:30am to 1:30am on Fridays and Saturdays. It is highly advisable to always check the ATAC website for the latest service updates when planning your journey. Tickets and Passes Tickets can be purchased at most newsagents and coffee shops and at vending machines at bus stops and underground stations around the city. Different kinds of tickets are available: BIT (SINGLE RIDE - € 1.50) - Valid for 100 minutes from initial validation on buses (including Cotral buses within the city), trams, regional trains within the City (2nd class) and subway (without exiting turnstiles). BIG (DAILY - € 6) BTI (3 DAY - € 16.50) CIS (WEEKLY - € 24) Daily, 3-day and weekly tickets are valid until 11:59 pm of the day of expiry for unlimited rides on all buses, trams, regional trains (2nd class) and subway lines within the city. 6 | P a g e Rome Subway Map 7 | P a g e Additional useful Information on the city of Rome A) Electricity supply - Italy has a 220 volts electricity supply, the sockets are three round pins in a row. B) Mobile phones - There are four mobile phone GSM operators active in Italy: TIM, Vodafone, Wind and 3. They operate on the 900/1800 MHz bands. Participants can check with their home country provider whether roaming is available with one or more of the operators mentioned above. C) Shopping - Shops in Italy are usually open from 9:00 to 13:00 hours and from 15:30 to 19:30 hours. However, many of the shops in the downtown area also remain open during the lunch break. D) Pickpockets - Participants are advised to carry their valuables in a safe place, especially on public transport. Although Rome is a safe city, there might be pickpockets on the street, the underground and on buses and trams, in particular in touristic areas. Once participants have checked into their hotels, it is advisable to leave valuables in the hotel safe. Identity cards, keepsakes and anything else not needed in the city are best left at the hotel or place of residence. E) Insurance - Participants should ensure that they have appropriate and sufficient medical and travel insurance. The main entrance to the University Campus is at Piazzale Aldo Moro, 5, but there are many side entrances to the main campus. It’s only a 10 minute walk from the Termini Train Station. Otherwise, take bus n. 310 and get off at the “Università/Regina Elena” Stop. From the Tiburtina Train Station: take bus n. 71 or n.492 and get off at the “Verano/DeLollis” stop. By Subway/Underground: take the “B Line” Metro to the “Policlinico” stop. The integration of audio/video systems allows streaming, both “on-demand” and “live”, of the events that take place in any of the rooms connected to the multimedia system. Technicians give technical support for audio and video registration of the events.
