Blue Ash Police Department Blue Ash PD Policy Manual CHIEF'S PREFACE The Blue Ash Police Department abides by a policy manual that is current and that is constantly evolving. This policy manual provides our officers with the framework and expectations that assist us in the performance of our daily duties as we strive to provide excellent public service. With guidance from Lexipol, we have established a policy manual that contains nationally accepted police practices and principles. The courageous men and women of the Blue Ash Police Department are held to the highest standards and the expectation is that all officers will perform their duties in the most professional, legal, moral, and ethical manner possible. We also acknowledge that no policy manual can cover every situation and we understand law enforcement is a dynamic and often times, a rapidly evolving profession that is difficult if not impossible to anticipate all circumstances that may occur. The expectation is that our officers will utilize sound judgment, training, and resourcefulness as they apply these policies. Deviation from this policy manual may be accepted under certain circumstances. Using problem solving skills, creativity, and sound judgment, all actions taken by our employees should be reasonable and reflect the mission statement of our department. The expectation is that every member of the Blue Ash Police Department reads, understands, and accepts the standards that this manual provides. It is the responsibility of all members of the police department to provide insight and feedback as we constantly review our policies in order to stay current with changing standards that include but are not limited to legal updates, police best practices, and changes in community standards. The Blue Ash Police Department takes pride in being a leader in the law enforcement community. Through personal and professional development we strive to constantly improve our performance. We will continue to provide exceptional service to our community. We value our community partners and look forward to working together to make Blue Ash a model for others to follow. Scott D. Chief's Preface - 1 Published with permission by Blue Ash Police Department Blue Ash Police Department Blue Ash PD Policy Manual LAW ENFORCEMENT CODE OF ETHICS As a law enforcement officer, my fundamental duty is to serve the community; to safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak against oppression or intimidation and the peaceful against abuse or disorder; and to respect the constitutional rights of all to liberty, equality and justice. I will keep my private life unsullied as an example to all and will behave in a manner that does not bring discredit to me or to my agency. I will maintain courageous calm in the face of danger, scorn or ridicule; develop self-restraint; and be constantly mindful of the welfare of others. Honest in thought and deed both in my personal and official life, I will be exemplary in obeying the law and the regulations of my department. Whatever I see or hear of a confidential nature or that is confided to me in my official capacity will be kept ever secret unless revelation is necessary in the performance of my duty. I will never act officiously or permit personal feelings, prejudices, political beliefs, aspirations, animosities or friendships to influence my decisions. With no compromise for crime and with relentless prosecution of criminals, I will enforce the law courteously and appropriately without fear or favor, malice or ill will, never employing unnecessary force or abuse and never accepting gratuities. I recognize the badge of my office as a symbol of public faith, and I accept it as a public trust to be held so long as I am true to the ethics of police service. I will never engage in acts of corruption or bribery, nor will I condone such acts by other police officers. I will cooperate with all legally authorized agencies and their representatives in the pursuit of justice. I know that I alone am responsible for my own standard of professional performance and will take every reasonable opportunity to enhance and improve my level of knowledge and competence. I will constantly strive to achieve these objectives and ideals, dedicating myself before God to my chosen profession . law enforcement. Copyright Lexipol, LLC 2021/06/29, All Rights Reserved.
