HART LOCAL DIRECTORY 2006 Facilities & Services for Families CONNECTING PARENTS, DEVELOPING SERVICES Find out more and make your views known www.hcff.org.uk Registered Charity No. 1080170 1 INTRODUCTION The Hart branch of Hampshire Children and Families Forum (HCFF) comprises parents and carers and those working in voluntary and statutory organisations, working together to further the interests of children and young people. The branch has one paid member of staff working ten hours a week during term time, who is supported by central staff based in Winchester. The branch co- ordinator is available to assist in any projects in the local area, fulfilling an identified need. Hampshire Children and Families Forum is a charity, which was established in April 2000 as an umbrella organisation for the former Under-Eights Forums operating across the county. Hart Under-Eights Forum transferred to HCFF with a new remit to support and inform families with children aged under fourteen. In June 2005, the constitution was altered to allow the charity to work with all children, young people and their families. The branch meets once each school term to discuss current topics of relevance to families and to exchange information on specific local projects. Parents, carers and professionals are very welcome. You can find out the date of the next meeting by contacting your local co-ordinator or by looking at the branch website http://hcff.org.uk/hart.html Each branch also publishes a newsletter every school term which is distributed free of charge through schools, libraries, at parent and toddler groups, by Health Visitors and to a branch mailing list. If you wish to be added to this mailing list please get in touch. Details of holiday playschemes, library activities and local support groups are included in newsletters, in addition to news of local and national projects, which will be of interest to families. This directory is produced to aid families wishing to access services locally. It is constantly under revision and is kept updated on the branch web pages http://hcff.org.uk/hart.html There is no charge for listings or for copies of the directory. The directory will be reprinted when funds permit. If you are aware of errors or omissions please get in touch using the form at the back of this directory. For health information or advice at any time of the day or night, call NHS direct on 0845 46 47. Primary Care Trusts Primary care is the care provided by people you normally see when you first have a health problem. This includes doctors, dentists, pharmacists or NHS Direct. All these services are managed by your local Primary Care Trust (PCT). Your PCT will work with local authorities and other agencies that provide health and social care locally to make sure that your local community ‘s needs are being met. PCTs are now at the centre of the NHS and will get 75% of the NHS budget. As they are local organisations, they are in the best position to understand the needs of their community, so they can make sure that the organisations providing health and social care services are working effectively. For example, your PCT must make sure that there are enough services for people within their area and that these services are accessible. Contact your local PCT: Blackwater Valley and Hart PCT, Winchfield Lodge, Old Potbridge Road, Winchfield, Hook, Hampshire, RG27 8BT Tel: 01252 849 000 Fax: 01252 849 001 http://www.bvhpct.nhs.uk/ 4 Patient Advice and Liaison Services (PALS) PALS Tel: 01483 782775 Email: [email protected] You can talk to PALS who provide confidential advice and support to patients, families and their carers, and can provide information on the NHS and health related matters. If you have a concern about PCT services but don’t want to make a formal complaint, the PALS team will try to help resolve the issue. PALS staff can deal with services provided directly by the primary care trusts AND those provided by GPs, dentists, pharmacists and opticians. There is a Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) Forum for every NHS Trust and Primary Care Trust (PCT) in England. They are made up of local people and have new powers. The Forums play an active role in health related decision making within their communities. Members of PPI Forums are provided with training and development opportunities to enable them to participate effectively. Each PPI Forum is supported by a Forum Support Organisation and the Commission regional centre. PPI Forums are a key vehicle for raising awareness of the needs and views of patients and the public, and placing them at the centre of health services. They have a number of primary roles, which include: • Obtaining views from local communities about health services and make recommendations and reports. • Making reports and recommendations on the range and day to day delivery of health services • Influence the design of and access to NHS services • Providing advice and information to patients and their carers about services Each forum is made of up of volunteers in their local community who are enthusiastic about helping patients and members of the public influence the way that local healthcare is organised and delivered. Forum members come from a broad variety of backgrounds and have a range of experience and skills.
