Thanks go to everyone who supported us during the year. We would love to see a hostel opened here in Bridlington so Mayorthose ofwho Bridlington have to sleep rough have somewhere to go instead of being abused on the streets. Lastly I 2006would - 2007 like to thank my fellow Councillors for the help I have received during the year and for the decorum shown at and during the meetings. I believe this year ran smoothly and most meetings finished on time and a great deal was accomplished. Thank you also to all the staff for their help in getting me to events on time, and may the Lord bless everyone. Leslie Taylor Councillor Leslie Taylor Mayor of Bridlington 2006 - 2007 1 Bridlington Town Council SECTION 1 Bridlington Town Council Council Year 2006-2007 May 2006 The Annual Meeting of the Council generated two nominations for Mayor. Councillor Leslie Taylor was elected by six votes to five votes in favour of Councillor Cyril Marsburg. Councillor Mrs Wyn Taylor was announced by the Mayor as his Mayoress for the ensuing year. Councillor Raymond Allerston and Councillor Mrs Christine Allerston were elected as Deputy Mayor and Mayoress. The Council opened a further bank deposit account to hold ring-fenced funds for the proposed Gasworx Skatepark. The marketing of advertising space within the Council’s newsletter became an added responsibility of the Administrative Assistant with additional hours allotted to manage each edition. Three companies were invited to present preliminary design proposals for the Gasworx Skatepark. The Council discussed speeding issues on Bempton Lane and Scarborough Road. The seventh annual Parish Meeting was held on the 30th May in the Council Chamber within Bridlington Town Hall with ten local electors in attendance. June 2006 A grant of £10,000 was awarded to the Sewerby Cricket Club towards the construction of a new cricket pavilion. An agreement was concluded for the cricket club to provide summer-only (May to September) public conveniences for the use of visitors to the village. The only other public toilets in Sewerby are those located in the grounds of Sewerby Hall for which an entrance fee is payable during the tourist season. A fee of £1,000 per annum plus an annual inflationary increment was agreed with the cricket club for the provision of the toilets. Additional grants of £500 each to Bridwatch and the East Yorkshire Citizens Advice Bureau were approved. Two private tenders for the operation and maintenance of the St. John’s Street public conveniences were declined in favour of renewing the existing service level agreement with the principal authority. Phil Darby, Bridlington Community Warden’s Team Leader addressed the Council on the inaugural two months of the new community warden service. The East Riding of Yorkshire Council announced the establishment of Area Forums. The membership of the Bridlington and Driffield Area Forum will be eight principal council ward members by party nomination and eight town or parish councillors elected by a postal ballot. 2 Bridlington Town Council Council Year 2006-2007 July 2006 The 2nd Battalion, The Yorkshire regiment (Green Howards) was granted the Honorary Freedom of Brid- lington following a march past and ceremony in the grounds of the Bridlington Town Hall. The Mayor presented an illuminated citation and in exchange was presented with a framed regimental cap badge. Father Phillip Lamb, Assistant Curate of the Priory Church of St. Mary presented the Mayor with a petition signed by pupils and staff of Bridlington schools to highlight the plight of the homeless within the town. Father Lamb was invited to present his petition to a Scrutiny Committee of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council. The newly-formed 2nd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards) march past, drum demonstration and presentations was delayed slightly by inclement weather but eventually passed off without a hitch and was followed by a reception and slide show in the Town Hall. August 2006 A grant of £1,000 is made to the Bridlington Lawn Tennis Club towards the refurbishment of the hard courts at Dukes Park. The Council expresses its dissatisfaction regarding the release of raw sewage that polluted Bridlington’s south beach on 27th July 2007. The Council accepted the resignation of Miss Jeni Kennedy with deep regret. Miss Kennedy had served the Council in an administrative capacity for almost three years. September 2006 Clair Reading, Senior Organiser of Home-Start Bridlington and Driffield addressed the Council at its monthly meeting. October 2006 Mr Iain McInnes, the Interim Chief Executive of the Scarborough and North East Yorkshire Healthcare NHS Trust addressed the Council on the provision of services at the Bridlington Hospital. West Hill Community Services approached the Council to be the lead body for the construction of a £38,500 children’s play area to be located on Bessingby Gate. The Council resolved to support the majority view of residents living in the proposed extension area to the Controlled Parking Zone. Sixteen contractors were originally approached to express their interest. Seven responded from which four contractors were invited to tender for the construction of the Gasworx Skatepark. 3 Bridlington Town Council Council Year 2006-2007 November 2006 Representatives from Yorkshire Water attended the Council’s monthly meeting to answer questions re- garding the raw sewage pollution caused to the south beach in July. The Bridlington Youth Council extended an invitation for a representative of the Council to attend a fu- ture meeting. Councillor Michael Charlesworth subsequently attended one meeting and no further con- tact has taken place. The Council expressed its opposition to the imposition of winter car parking charges. The Council was approached and agreed to contribute to the annual maintenance of the proposed West Hill children’s play area. Mr Iain McInnes, Interim Chief Executive of the Scarborough and North East Yorkshire Healthcare NHS Trust, addressed the Council at an extraordinary meeting called to consider the discussion paper ‘A future role for Bridlington Hospital’. Chico was the star guest on the Christmas Lights stage with Yorkshire Coast Radio’s road show and various acts providing three hour’s of entertainment culminating in the switch on of the lights.
