Prof. Zinn is originally from the United States, where she did her academic training. She has conducted fieldwork in Southern Italy and South Tyrol, and has published extensively on issues such as immigration and multiculturalism, youths with migration background, clientelism and corruption, social protest, youth unemployment. She is also involved in research on Bronislaw Malinowski’s presence in South Tyrol and co-founded the Malinowski Forum for Ethnography and Anthropology (MFEA) at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano (https://mfea.projects.unibz.it/). Her book La Raccomandazione (Donzelli, 2001) won a Pitré international award in anthropology. She has translated a number of anthropological texts from Italian into English, including two classic ethnographic monographs by Italian ethnologist Ernesto De Martino. In addition to her academic study of migration, Prof. Zinn serves as a volunteer scientific consultant with migrant advocacy groups and is an editorialist with the newspaper Corriere dell’Alto Adige.
