E-mail: [email protected] Abstract A new species of deep-water spider crab (Majidae) of the genus Rochinia A. Milne-Edwards, 1875, is described from Guam. Rochinia paulayi, new species, is distinguished from the allied R. pulchra (Miers, 1886), R. riversandersoni (Alcock, 1895) and R. griffini Davie & Short, 1989, in the form and position of the carapace spines. Key words: Crustacea, Decapoda, Brachyura, Majidae, Rochinia, new species, Guam Introduction The brachyuran diversity of Guam, Micronesia, has been relatively well documented (Paulay et al. 2003) but its deep-water fauna is still relatively poorly known (see Eldredge 1980; Williams & Moffitt 1991; Williams & Eldredge 1994). Through the courtesy of Lucius Eldredge (Bishop Musem, Honolulu) and Gustav Paulay (Florida Museum of Natural History), the first author had the opportunity to study some of the unreported material, and two new species have already been reported (Crosnier & Ng 2004; Richer de Forges & Ng 2007). In this paper, we report on a new species of spider crab of the genus Rochinia A. Milne-Edwards, 1875, from Guam. The specimen examined is deposited in the Zoological Reference Collection (ZRC) of the Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research, National University of Singapore. The terminology used essentially fol- lows that by Griffin & Tranter (1986). The abbreviations G1 and G2 refer to the male first and second pleo- pods respectively; while P2–P5 are used for the first to fourth ambulatory legs respectively. Measurements provided, in millimeters, are of the carapace length followed by carapace width. Systematic account Majidae Samouelle, 1819 Subfamily Pisinae Alcock, 1895 Rochinia A.
