The sirens are located in the downtown and Riverbottoms areas. The city conducts this annual test so the public can experience the operation of the system before a real emergency. FAMILIES IN NEED Did you know 47 percent of the children in Provo schools qualify for and depend on free or reduced lunch during the school year? One in eight Provo residents live in poverty. These are our neighbors - working two- parent families with children, elderly persons, students, persons with disabilities, and single moms with children. Last year, the United Way Sub for Santa program alone helped 1,491 families and 3,911 children in our area. WHERE TO DONATE ‘Tis the Season of Giving. Looking for ways to help the less fortunate or volunteer this holiday season? Make Christmas Possible for Low-Income Families. Sub for Santa matches families in need with volunteer sponsors from the community. Sponsors are asked to provide two new toys, two new clothing items and a book for each child. Sign up online at unitedwayuc.org. Volunteer at the Food and Care Coalition Sign up to serve hot meals, play a musical instrument during meal time, donate hygiene items, or conduct a food drive. Community Action Services and Food Bank Help supply low-income families with food by donating food items to the food bank, volunteer to help unload, sort, and restock donated items in the pantry, or compile specialty kits.
