COVID-19'S Implications for East European Security

The Pandemic Disruptor: COVID-19’s implications for East European security Online event 7 April 2020 Venue: Live online, Minsk Dialogue’s YouTube channel Time: 14.00-15.15 (Minsk/Vilnius time, GMT+3) Format: moderated panel discussion Working language: English Organizers: Minsk Dialogue Council on International Relations (Belarus), Konrad- Adenauer-Stiftung (Germany), Eastern Europe Studies Centre (Lithuania), Centre for Eurasian and European Studies at the Faculty of International Relations, Belarusian State University (Belarus), GCRF COMPASS Project (UK) We seem to be only at the beginning of the global crisis caused by the spread of the novel coronavirus. Longer-term impact of COVID-19 on international relations is hard to predict at this point, yet the pandemic has already disrupted, in an unprecedented way, the lives of billions of people and the functioning of most countries. As global uncertainty is mounting the event will focus on COVID-19’s immediate implications for security in Eastern Europe. Is it emerging as a game-changer for the region? Will the pressures of the pandemic alter the security rationale of East European states? What implications will these developments have for defence alliances? Will there be more room for cooperation? What dimensions of security will need to be prioritised by national governments, civil society, and international organisations? Please join us for this online panel, which will be live-streamed at the Minsk Dialogue’s YouTube channel. To ask a question before or during the event, please use the YouTube chat, which will be available during the event or tweet us at @minskdialogue Speakers Elena Korosteleva Professor of International Politics, Director of the Global Europe Centre, University of Kent, UK Roza Turarbekova Director, Centre for Eurasian and European Studies at the Faculty of International Relations, Belarusian State University; Associate Professor, Belarusian State University, Belarus Daniela Braun Policy Advisor for Foreign and Security Affairs, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Germany Linas Kojala Director, Eastern Europe Studies Centre, Lithuania Yauheni Preiherman Director, Minsk Dialogue Council on International Relations, Belarus Moderator Jakob Wöllenstein Director Country Office Belarus, Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung, Germany .
