Sun City Grand RV Club Newsletter - January 2019 www.grandrv.org Happy New Year, everyone! I’m Ford Rollo and I’ll be the new editor and publisher of the club’s newsletter for a while. I’d like to invite each and every one of you to contribute your ideas as to what you’d like to see in the way of articles, information, etc. I’ll do my very best to include your suggestions. In the meantime, you’ll see that I’ve changed the format a little. I hope you like it. Critical reviews are gladly accepted. Thanks to Laurie Stewart, our outgoing editor, for taking me under her wing and teaching me the ropes. Next Meeting: January 15, 2019 - Agua Fria Room - Cimarron Center - 5:00 p.m. Guest Speaker: Kevin Connolly of One Trout RV Inspections. Co-Presidents: Penny Betcher Laura Haynes [email protected] Here’s hoping everyone had a great holiday but we are all looking forward to a great new year as we welcome 2019. WOW seems weird to even say that out loud, 2019. But yup, it’s here. We have an interesting speaker for our January meeting. Kevin Connolly from One Trout RV Inspections will discuss buying and selling RV’s. He is a certified NRVIA Inspector. He was scheduled for our November meeting but due to a scheduling misunderstanding he rescheduled for the January meeting. I’m sure the information he shares with us is something we all will benefit from at one point in our RV lives. AND in February we will have a speaker from Cummings, more on that in next month’s newsletter. Didn’t our Entertainment Committee do a great job with the Holiday Party? Kudo’s to Dan and Nancy Newman, Linda Daily, and Laura Haynes with assistance from Judy McClendon for setting up the room. And, what about the entertainer, Craig Athony, the Mentalist. Aren’t we all still trying to figure out exactly how he did all those tricks? Snaque Rollo…Noel? Page !1 Judy McClendon…I thought you could read! Dale Rees and Bill Navratil, you guys were so funny, I think Craig had a hard time deciding who was lying. It sure was a fun night. Thanks to everyone. Finally, and this is VERY IMPORTANT… the next two meetings (February 19 and March 19) will be held in the Hopi Room at the Chaparral Center. Please don’t get lost. If you’ve ever purchased the one-dollar ice cream at the Grand Café, the Hopi room is just down the hall, past the lounge from the Grand Café. So, Laura Haynes, the President-elect, and I will see you at the next meeting. Vice-President: Janice Porter [email protected] Our program this month is Kevin Connolly of One Trout RV Inspection. Kevin helps you make an informed decision regarding the purchase of an RV. Kevin says: “Owning an RV is not like having a car. There are a number of systems that should be checked to ensure they operate properly. Electric (120V, 12V, solar and generator), propane, water, water heater, heating, refrigerator, air conditioning and plumbing to name a few. The roof, floor, tires and windows are in the mix also. It’s advisable to pull fluid samples from the engine, transmission, generator and coolant to get the complete picture.” Looks like we’ll get some good information from this program so don’t miss it! De Anza RV Resort: Dates: Nov. 4 to Nov 10, 2019 2019 Monster Energy Cup, Phoenix ISM Raceway: Dates: Nov. 7 to Nov. 11, 2019 A note from Mike Holloway, Trip Director As a fellow RVer who is going to participate in a rally, you have the responsibility to communicate in a timely manner to allow the Wagon Master to be more efficient. That means the following: 1. If you put your name on the interest list for a rally and have an email address, please watch your email regularly for contacts from your Wagon Master and respond promptly. 2. As soon as you know you are going on the rally (and not just on the interest list), fill out the Trip Application (available on the website when you click on the rally you are interested in. Click on the RED “Print Application” tab) and include it with your trip fee check of $5 per person made out to “Sun City Grand RFV Club” and get it to your Wagon Master bay snail mail or in person. The trip fee is used by the Wagon Master to cover any club expenses, provide maps, directions, instructions, details about arrangements made and possibly entertainment or a meal at the destination RV park. Feel free to contact the Wagon Master if you have questions or difficulty with getting the application. 3. Promptly respond to requests by your Wagon Master for your preferences, activities you’d like to participate in and any other information he or she needs. The Wagon Master might have a large number of people to provide for and it takes time to coordinate and organize well in advance of your departure. 4. If you have to cancel, make sure you delete your name from the participant list on the website. It’s as easy as a couple of clicks after logging in and clicking on the rally. The Wagon Master receives an email when someone either signs up for the trip or cancels! As a courtesy, you may call the Wagon Master, but they do get the notice. And as always, the club needs YOU to volunteer to be a Wagon Master to share a favorite or new destination with your fellow club members. If you potentially expect many club members to participate in your Rally, it might be more fun to ask another club member to be the assistant Wagon Master to spread the responsibilities out a bit.
